The World Health Organization (WHO) reports 684,000 deaths/year due to slips and falls (SFs), with ∼38 million people requiring medical attention per annum. In particular, SFs on ice surfaces account for 45% of all SF incidents, costing over $100 billion globally in healthcare, intensive care, and insurance expenses. Current antislip solutions focus on hydrophobicity to repel interfacial fluids, aiming to maintain solid-to-solid contact.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFIntroduction: Slip-related falls are a significant concern, particularly for vulnerable populations such as the elderly and individuals with gait disorders, necessitating effective preventive measures. This manuscript presents a biomechanical study of how the lower limbs react to perturbations that can trigger a slip-like fall, with the ultimate goal of identifying target specifications for developing a wearable robotic system for slip-like fall prevention.
Methods: Our analysis provides a comprehensive understanding of the natural human biomechanical response to slip perturbations in both slipping and trailing legs, by innovatively collecting parameters from both the sagittal and frontal plane since both play pivotal roles in maintaining stability and preventing falls and thus provide new insights to fall prevention.
Background: Doxorubicin (DOX) has been widely used in the treatment of breast cancer, but it is directly associated with late-onset cardiovascular disease (CVD). Whether anthropometric, food intake or other risk factors together with DOX-based chemotherapy can increase the risk of developing cardiotoxicity remains uncertain. Method: A bibliographic review was performed on PubMed using the following search items: "degree of conversion" OR "filler" AND "resin cement" OR "inorganic cement" AND "organic" OR "radiopacity" OR "refractive" OR "transmittance" OR "type" AND "resin composite." The search involved articles published in English language within the last thirteen years.
The prevalence of complications due to the presence of biofilms in dental implant surfaces and their relationship with peri-implant diseases, namely peri-implantitis, remain difficult problems to overcome. The information available about the application of electric current on dental implant biofilms; its parameters, namely current level, voltage and exposure time; and related effects are still not enough to understand which individual mechanisms are caused by this technique, culminating in the decrease or eradication of the biofilm. The purpose of this narrative review, based on a systematic search, is to understand the effect of electric current directly applied to biofilms present in dental implants and which parameters are used.

The purpose of the present study was to perform a preliminary analysis of the fitting of different fiber-reinforced composite (GFRC) posts to tooth root canals and determine the resin cement layer thickness. The following GFRC posts were assessed: bundle posts (Rebilda GT, VOCO, Germany), sleeve system (SAP, Angelus Ind, Brazil), and accessory posts (Reforpin, Angelus, Brazil). Twenty-four freshly extracted mandibular single-rooted pre-molars were endodontically treated and divided into six groups, according to the type of GFRC post and resin cement (self-adhesive or conventional dual-cured).

In this study, we report for the first time as an intermediate host for (Chen, 1935) based on histological and molecular analyses of slugs from Tuamasaga, Samoa, deposited at the Medical Malacological Collection (Fiocruz-CMM). View Article and Find Full Text PDFObjective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of the thickness of resin-matrix composite blocks manufactured by CAD-CAM on the light transmittance towards different resin-matrix cements or flowable composites.
Methods: Sixty specimens of resin-matrix composite CAD-CAM blocks reinforced with 89 wt% inorganic fillers were cross-sectioned with 2 or 3 mm thicknesses. The specimens were conditioned with adhesive system and divided in groups according to the luting material, namely: two dual-cured resin-matrix cements, two traditional flowable resin-matrix composites, and one thermal-induced flowable resin-matrix composite.
The World Health Organization (WHO) recognizes schistosomiasis as one of the Neglected Tropical Diseases targeted for global elimination in the 2030 Agenda of the Sustainable Development Goals. In Brazil, schistosomiasis mansoni is considered a public health problem, particularly prevalent among vulnerable populations living in areas with poor environmental and sanitary conditions. In 2022, the WHO published a Guideline encompassing recommendations to assist national programs in endemic countries in achieving morbidity control, eliminating schistosomiasis as a public health problem, and advancing towards interrupting transmission.

Materials And Methods: DBBM or HDBG were mixed with an alginate-based hydrogel at two different granule/hydrogel ratio (1:1 and 1:3) and divided into four test groups while two control groups were composed of DBBM or HDBG free of hydrogel. Groups of specimens were cross-sectioned for morphological evaluation by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) at backscattered electrons mode.

Accordingly, as part of a multicenter study in Brazil, the aim of the present study was to assess which rectal or oropharyngeal swabs would be more appropriate for detecting SARS-CoV-2 in cats and dogs, through viral load comparison. Pets of owners diagnosed with COVID-19 in the last 7 days were eligible.
