Objective: To compare the spatio-temporal distribution of cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) cases with mucosal leishmaniasis (ML) cases in the state of Rio de Janeiro (RJ) between 2001 and 2011.
Method: The incidence rates (IR) of CL and ML were calculated for the cases notified between 2001-2011 in the Information System of Notifiable Diseases for Rio de Janeiro (RJ, and for the municipalities of Rio de Janeiro and Angra dos Reis, with georeferencing and construction of thematic maps. A negative binomial regression model was used to assess the temporal dependency between CL and ML.
Background: The Amazon Rainforest, a paramount source of global biological diversity, faces challenges due to its understudied species richness, an insufficient investment in research and escalating rates of deforestation. Thus, acquiring additional data, especially for species distributions is crucial to fill knowledge gaps and guide forthcoming research and conservation initiatives in areas that have been inadequately sampled. This study contributes to addressing these challenges by offering new insights into the diversity and distribution of species in the Brazilian Amazon.

This study examined whether such exposure was associated with increased risk of ACEs and negative psychological reactions (NPRs) in adolescence and young adulthood. The study relied on cross-sectional and longitudinal data from the Trøndelag Health Study in Norway and included 2,230 adolescents (ages 13-19 years) followed up 11 years later.

Growing evidence has indicated a potential association between maternal consumption of caffeine and impaired cognition and behavior in rodent offspring. However, potential sex differences, as well as caffeine-related effects in subsequent generations are still poorly investigated. We aimed to investigate the impact of pre-and/or neonatal exposition to caffeine on the neurodevelopment of male and female mice offspring.

Introduction: Shivering affects 52 % of patients undergoing caesarean delivery under neuraxial anaesthesia. Despite extensive research focused on its prevention, there is still no consensus regarding optimal pharmacological treatment. This systematic review and network meta-analysis aims to compare available intravenous treatments of perioperative shivering in patients undergoing caesarean delivery under neuraxial anaesthesia.

To this end, it is essential that they acquire a set of skills needed to implement bullying intervention programs. This article describes the protocol for a scoping review to identify and map the core competences for school nurses to develop anti-bullying strategies.

Here, we track karyotype evolution in EACs in response to treatment and upon recurrence through multi-region and longitudinal analysis. To this end, we introduce L-PAC (low-purity inference of absolute copy-number alterations [CNAs]), a bio-informatics technique that allows inference of absolute CNAs of low-purity samples by leveraging the information of high-purity samples from the same cancer.

In this study we investigated the role of PEAK1 in colorectal carcinoma (CRC) progression using various in vitro and in vivo models to replicate the stepwise pathogenesis of CRC. While we observed a cell-type specific role for PEAK1 in the proliferation and in human CRC cell lines in vitro, our in vivo experiments using different CRC mouse models driven by loss of Apc, with or without oncogenic Kras or Pten loss suggest that PEAK1 does not significantly contribute to tumor formation in vivo.

This multidisciplinary consensus statement between the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology (SOAP), Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine (SMFM), and American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine (ASRA) provides a framework for pain management in obstetric patients with OUD. The purpose of this consensus statement is to provide practical and evidence-based recommendations and is targeted to health care providers in obstetrics and anesthesiology.

The ObsQoR study explored structures, processes, and outcomes of obstetric anaesthesia in 107 hospitals within the UK's National Health Service, and the results of the hospital-level survey are reported here. Methods Hospitals were surveyed to assess obstetric anaesthesia provision, practice, and care delivery.

Despite advancements, the prognosis for IDH-wildtype glioblastoma remains poor, particularly when surgical resection is not possible. However, some patients exhibit unexpectedly extended survival despite the extent of resection.

The SARC-CalF is an accurate instrument for its screening; however, it includes the calf circumference (CC) measure as a criterion, which is influenced by adiposity. An adjustment for CC based on body mass index (BMI) has been proposed, but the literature lacks studies evaluating the SARC-CalF using adjusted CC.

Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study consisted of a convenience sample of 400 children and adolescents from public schools in Itapevi-SP, Brazil. The Physical Activity Checklist Interview or LAF "Lista de Atividades Físicas" in a Brazilian version, was administered in a face-to-face interview on a school day and allowed assessment of sedentary behavior and physical activity on the previous day.
2D dilute magnetic semiconductors (DMS) based on transition metal dichalcogenides (TMD) offer an innovative pathway for advancing spintronic technologies, including the potential to exploit phenomena such as the valley Zeeman effect. However, the impact of magnetic ordering on the valley degeneracy breaking and on the enhancement of the optical transitions g-factors of these materials remains an open question. Here, a giant effective g-factors ranging between ≈-27 and -69 for the bound exciton at 4 K in vanadium-doped WSe monolayers, obtained through magneto-photoluminescence (PL) experiments is reported.

In this study, we used whole-genome cell-free DNA (cfDNA) fragmentome and protein biomarker (CA-125 and HE4) analyses to evaluate 591 women with ovarian cancer, benign adnexal masses, or without ovarian lesions. Using a machine learning model with the combined features, we detected ovarian cancer with specificity >99% and sensitivity of 72%, 69%, 87%, and 100% for stages I-IV, respectively.

COVID-19 presents unique challenges due to various factors influencing diagnosis, especially regarding disease symptoms that closely resemble those of other viral diseases, including other strains of SARS, thus impacting the identification of useful and meaningful symptom patterns as they emerge in infections. Therefore, this study proposes an association rule mining approach, utilising the Apriori algorithm to analyse the similarities between individuals with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 diagnosis and those with unspecified SARS diagnosis.

Symptoms of SLE can vary widely from person to person and over time, including fatigue, joint pain, skin rashes, fever, and inflammation of multiple organs. The association between SLE and excess body weight has been the subject of study, with evidence suggesting that overweight and obesity can worsen the disease´s clinical presentation.
