Here, we apply two-color two-dimensional infrared (2D-IR) spectroscopy to D-B-A complexes with a -Pt(II) acetylide bridge (D-C≡C-Pt-C≡C-A) to uncover the mechanism of vibrational energy redistribution (IVR). Site-selective C isotopic labeling of the bridge is used to decouple the acetylide modes positioned on either side of the Pt-center.

With the aim of developing photostable near-infrared cell imaging probes, a convenient route to the synthesis of heteroleptic Os complexes containing the Os(TAP) fragment is reported. Could knee joint mechanics during the golf swing be contributing to chronic knee injuries in professional golfers?

Full three-dimensional movements and external moments in golfers' knees and the possible involvement in injuries have not been evaluated using motion capture at high sample frequencies. This study measured joint angles and external moments around the three anatomical axes in both knees of 10 professional golfers performing golf drives whilst standing on two force plates in a motion capture laboratory. Significant differences were found in the knee joint moments between the lead and trail limbs for the peak values and throughout all stages during the swing phase.

Sterically hindered Re- and Mn-CO reduction catalysts for solar energy conversion.

Novel molecular Re and Mn tricarbonyl complexes bearing a bipyridyl ligand functionalised with sterically hindering substituents in the 6,6'-position, [M(HPEAB)(CO)3(X)] (M/X = Re/Cl, Mn/Br; HPEAB = 6,6'-{N-(4-hexylphenyl)-N(ethyl)-amido}-2,2'-bipyridine) have been synthesised, fully characterised including by single crystal X-ray crystallography, and their propensity to act as catalysts for the electrochemical and photochemical reduction of CO2 has been established. Controlled potential electrolysis showed that the catalysts are effective for electrochemical CO2-reduction, yielding CO as the product (in MeCN for the Re-complex, in 95 : 5 (v/v) MeCN : H2O mixture for the Mn-complex). The recyclability of the catalysts was demonstrated through replenishment of CO2 within solution.

Introduction: BRCA1 mutation carriers have a significant lifetime risk of breast cancer, with their primary risk-reduction option being bilateral mastectomy. Preclinical work from our laboratory demonstrated that in BRCA1-deficient breast cells, oestrogen and its metabolites are capable of driving DNA damage and subsequent genomic instability, which are well-defined early events in BRCA1-related cancers. Based on this, we hypothesise that a chemopreventive approach which reduces circulating oestrogen levels may reduce DNA damage and genomic instability, thereby providing an alternative to risk-reducing surgery.

The future for PETTLEP: a modern perspective on an effective and established tool.

Over the past 15 years there has been much research into the PETTLEP model of motor imagery, originally designed to improve the quality and impact of imagery interventions on sport performance. This article reviews the most recent trends within this research. Despite a suggested change of underpinning mechanisms involved, there is much support for the positive impact of the model when applied within the sporting context and with engaged participants.

Anatomical changes correlated with chronic pain in forensic medicine.

This study was performed to determine the relationships between chronic pain and anatomic changes that may occur in the body. Autopsies were performed on fatalities that required death investigation in Linn County, IA, or adjacent and nearby areas. Persons with chronic pain were older than the control population at the time of death.

There is increasing evidence for the significant contribution provided by sport psychologists within applied coaching environments.
