Dopamine axons are the only axons known to grow during adolescence. Here, using rodent models, we examined how two proteins, Netrin-1 and its receptor, UNC5C, guide dopamine axons toward the prefrontal cortex and shape behaviour. We demonstrate in mice () that dopamine axons reach the cortex through a transient gradient of Netrin-1-expressing cells - disrupting this gradient reroutes axons away from their target.

Though friends naturally engage in prevention strategies, less is known about how capable guardianship influences risk. Using multilevel structural equation modeling, the present study examined guardianship at the person- and situation-level.

This is partly because most LHA neurons simultaneously promote feeding and drinking, suggesting that ingestive behaviors track together. A notable exception are LHA neurons expressing neurotensin (LHA neurons): activating these neurons promotes water intake but modestly restrains feeding.

Using focus groups, female college drinkers described (a) the role of friends in preventing SV, (b) the strategies friends use to reduce vulnerability, and (c) the barriers to implementation. Friends-based strategies (keeping tabs on one another, using signals to convey potential danger, interrupting escalating situations, taking responsibility for friends, relying on male friends) and barriers (intoxication, preoccupation, situation ambiguity, social consequences) were discussed.

This is unfortunate because diet and obesity may influence fluid balance in humans through a mechanism that is poorly understood. We therefore tested the hypothesis that HFD maintenance affects water intake in rats.

Although health care professionals focus on diagnosis, treatment, and comfort care, patients and families view the illness as it impacts their whole life.
Objective: Evaluating a Comprehensive, Adaptable, Life-Affirming, Longitudinal (CALL) intervention to patients with life-threatening cancer, cardiac illness, respiratory conditions or dementia.
Providing interdisciplinary coordinated health and social services has a profound positive impact on patients and families facing life-threatening illness. CALL Care is a demonstration project designed to provide this type of care and bridge gaps in the existing palliative care system. The program seeks to provide care that is comprehensive, adaptable, life-affirming, and longitudinal.

Large-scale change techniques and rapid redesign methodologies were used to improve the quality of care delivered to patients at the end of life in a large, multihospital healthcare delivery system. By bringing key stakeholders from across the system together at a symposium to formulate the vision and critical criteria for palliative care programs, as well as to develop a flexible set of design tools, each region in the system could respond to the unique needs of its own community. Hospice length of stay for the system improved by 100% in the year after the systemwide symposium.
