Introduction: Social isolation and loneliness are global public health concerns experienced among older adults which are commonly associated with negative physical, psychological, and social outcomes. The healthcare system has an opportunity to identify and address social isolation and loneliness in older adults. The Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) was developed to serve comprehensive social needs along with medical and behavioral needs of older adults who qualify for long-term care while still living in the community.

Enhancing Light-curing Competence: A Study of Radiant Exposure and Training Outcomes Among Dental Students.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to measure radiant exposure and time necessary to deliver 16 J/cm2 of radiant exposure to simulated Class I and Class III preparations by first-year dental students. First-year dental students (n=89) received a 60-minute lecture on light-curing. Using the Managing Accurate Resin Curing Patient Simulator (MARC-PS) and protective blue-light-blocking glasses, students twice light-cured Class I and Class III restorations, using the Valo Grand Cordless light-curing unit with infection-control barriers on both Standard and High Power Plus modes.

Antibiotic-Loaded Dendrimer Hydrogels in Periodontal Bone Regeneration: An In Vitro Release Feasibility Study.

The prescription of a course of oral antibiotics following bone grafting procedures is a common practice in clinical periodontics to reduce surgical site infections. The goal of this study is to characterize the release profile of antibiotics via local delivery using dendrimer hydrogels (DH) and to analyze the effect of two different particulate bone allografts on the release of the antibiotics in vitro. DH were synthesized from polyamidoamine (PAMAM) dendrimer G5 and polyethylene glycol diacrylate, and cefazolin was chosen as the antibiotic.

Orthodontic pain with fixed appliances and clear aligners: A 6-month comparison.

Introduction: This prospective study compared pain perception, intensity, and analgesic use among patients treated with fixed appliances (FAs) and clear aligners (CAs) over 6 months.

Methods: Digital surveys were collected from 87 adult patients treated with CA or FA from 2 orthodontic offices. The 7-item survey was sent at 3-time points (preappointment, 2-day postappointment, and 7-day postappointment) for each appointment.

Effect of Implant Maintenance on Incidence of Peri-implantitis and Early Implant Failure: Retrospective Cohort Study.

Maintaining dental implants and managing peri-implant tissues has become integral to dental practice. Owing to the larger number of implants placed, the number of peri-implant lesions is increasing. Periodontal implant maintenance therapy (PIMT) provides a conservative long-term treatment modality to monitor and maintain implants.

Tribochemical silicoating of amalgam promotes effective amalgam-resin repairs.

The purpose of this study was to determine the most effective method for bonding composite resin to artificially aged amalgam. A spherical amalgam alloy was triturated and condensed by hand into cylindrical plastic molds (6 mm in diameter and 4 mm in height) to create 90 specimens, which were then aged for 2 weeks in closed plastic containers at 23°C. The amalgam surfaces underwent 1 of 3 surface treatments (n = 30 per treatment): (1) air particle abrasion (APA) with 50-μm aluminum oxide particles applied with a force of 45 psi from a 10-mm distance, followed by rinsing with deionized water for 60 seconds; (2) APA following the same protocol with subsequent application of a metal primer (Alloy Primer); or (3) coating with 30-μm silica (CoJet) at a force of 45 psi from a 10-mm distance until the surface turned black.

Background: Motivational interviewing (MI) is an approach to increase parental compliance to follow up and recall of their children. It has proven to be successful in motivating parents to adopt and maintain preventive child oral health behaviors.

Aim: To assess the effectiveness of motivational interviewing on prevention strategies for parents of children who have received full-mouth dental rehabilitation under general anesthesia (GA).

Growth and impact of Project ECHO for workforce development in age-friendly care.

Background: Use of the Project ECHO® (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) model in geriatrics has increased dramatically largely because of the Health Resources and Services Administration-funded Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Programs (GWEP) utilizing it as a key tool for age-friendly, interprofessional workforce development. This manuscript describes the scope and impact of geriatrics ECHOs under the GWEP.

Methods: A survey of GWEPs was conducted to measure the reach, foci, evaluation methods, and other characteristics of ECHO networks.

Does crown, root, and bone visualization in a clear aligner virtual setup impact treatment decisions?

Introduction: Clear aligner technology based on a machine learning algorithm is currently available for orthodontic treatment. Treatment planning on the basis of 3-dimensional crown, root, and bone imaging is claimed to provide accurate diagnosis and better treatment outcomes for adult patients with complex needs. This study aimed to answer the following questions: (1) would practitioners modify their original treatment plan once provided with the crown, root, and bone view? and (2) does practitioner satisfaction regarding treatment outcomes change once the crown, root, and bone view is provided?

Methods: An online questionnaire was emailed to members of the American Association of Orthodontists (n = 2300) and the Virginia Orthodontic Education and Research Foundation (n = 211).

Effect of guided implant placement learning experiences on freehand skills: A pilot study.

Objectives: Guided implant systems can be used as a training approach for placing implants. This in vitro prospective randomized pilot study evaluated the learning progression and skill development in freehand placement of two implants supporting a three-unit fixed prosthesis on a simulation model among novice operators.

The post-translational modification lysine succinylation is implicated in the regulation of various metabolic pathways. However, its biological relevance remains uncertain due to methodological difficulties in determining high-impact succinylation sites. Here, using stable isotope labelling and data-independent acquisition mass spectrometry, we quantified lysine succinylation stoichiometries in mouse livers.

Background: The neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd:YAG) laser has various therapeutic applications in dentistry, including the treatment of dentin hypersensitivity and the bacterial reduction therapy in periodontology. The addition of antimicrobial agents may enhance the impact of the laser on bacterial viability.

Methods: Digital intraoral scans of 10 cases were assigned to their respective groups (n = 10, each, 30 total) as follows: no crowding (control), moderate crowding, and severe crowding. Digital images of these models were created in standard tessellation language (STL) file format using 3Shape software and randomly 3D printed.

To examine the impact of dental operatory room color on the level of anxiety in committed youth at a juvenile correctional center. A randomized controlled trial was conducted at a juvenile correctional center using an approved continuous quality assurance survey. The dental assistant collected self-reported anxiety scores from 164 individuals alternating between two dental operatory rooms.

Pediatric Dentists' and Guardians' Perceptions of Follow-Up Appointments After Dental Rehabilitation Under General Anesthesia.

It has been suggested that follow-up visits for pediatric patients after full-mouth dental rehabilitation (FMDR) under general anesthesia (GA) are important to evaluate healing and restorative treatment, review oral hygiene instruction, provide nutritional counseling and address guardians' concerns.
