This work studies two copper-based alloys as potential antimicrobial weapons for sectors where surface hygiene is essential. Effects of different alloying elements addition at the same Cu content (92.5% by weight) on the corrosion resistance and the antibacterial performance of two copper alloys were studied in an aerated disinfectant solution (0.

We aimed to comprehensively describe the causes of SLOCA and to discuss the relevance of the investigations.
Methods: We included 205 consecutive patients with SLOCA seen in our referral center.
As the worldwide population has been experiencing since 2020, viruses represent a serious threat to global well-being. To avoid viral transmission through surgery or medical examination, sterilization of medical material is needed. From emerging sterilization processes, the use of non-thermal plasma (NTP) arises as a promising technique to efficiently reduce microbial burden on medical devices, including new complex polymers as thermosensitive ones.

However, other MRI abnormalities such as MCP hyperintensity, hot cross bun sign (HCB), putaminal hypointensity and hyperintense putaminal rim have been described.
Objectives: To evaluate, in patients with sporadic late-onset cerebellar ataxia (SLOCA), the discriminative value of several MRI features for the diagnosis of MSA-C, to follow their evolution during the course of MSA-C, and to search for correlations between these MRI features and clinical signs.
Exercise training offers possible nonpharmacological therapy for cardiovascular diseases including hypertension. High-intensity intermittent exercise (HIIE) training has been shown to have as much or even more beneficial cardiovascular effect in patients with cardiovascular diseases than moderate-intensity continuous exercise (CMIE) training. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of the two types of training on cardiac remodeling of spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) induced by hypertension.

With traditional counts on agar plate a six log reduction of viability was obtained within 120 min of O, Ar, or N NTP treatments. However to determine the best NTP process, we studied the different physiological states of by flow cytometry (FC) and confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) focusing on the esterasic activity and membrane integrity of the bacteria.

Here, we report roles for both of these chromatin-modifying enzymes in mouse sex determination, the process by which the embryonic gonad develops into a testis or an ovary. By targeting gene ablation to embryonic gonadal somatic cells using an inducible Cre line, we show that gonads lacking either gene exhibit major abnormalities of XY gonad development at 14.

The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of the oxygen, nitrogen and argon plasma sterilization on Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis spores according to the NF EN 556 Norm. Moreover the bag integrity which is a critical key to maintain the sterile state of items after the end of the process was verified by Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) and X-ray Photoelectron Spectrometry (XPS) analyses.

Objective: The purpose of this study is to evaluate stereoradiographic measurements of femoral torsion with different femoral positions, in comparison with CT measurements, with use of the current standard axial-slice technique. We hypothesize that CT measurements vary with femoral spatial positioning because of the resulting projection onto the CT plane, whereas stereoradiographic measurements, which are derived from a 3D reconstruction of the femur, remain constant.
Materials And Methods: Both in vitro and in vivo studies were conducted.
Dodoneine (Ddn) is one of the active compounds identified from , which is a medicinal plant used in African pharmacopeia and traditional medicine for the treatment of hypertension. In the context of a scientific program aiming at discovering new hypotensive agents through the original combination of natural product discovery and superacid chemistry diversification, and after evidencing dodoneine's vasorelaxant effect on rat aorta, superacid modifications allowed us to generate original analogues which showed selective human carbonic anhydrase III (hCA III) and L-type Ca current inhibition. These derivatives can now be considered as new lead compounds for vasorelaxant therapeutics targeting these two proteins.

We aimed at describing the different causes of sporadic late-onset cerebellar ataxias that were diagnosed following standardized, exhaustive investigations and the population characteristics according to the aetiologies as well as at evaluating the relevance of these investigations. All patients consecutively referred to our centre due to sporadic, progressive cerebellar ataxia occurring after 40 years of age were included in the prospective, observational study.

We report two cases, both Caucasian, who exhibited progressive cerebellar ataxia, chorea, a mild subcortical frontal cognitive impairment, and in one case severe polyneuropathy. Brain MRI demonstrated cerebellar (2/2) and cortical (1/2) atrophy.

The supporting cell lineage plays a crucial role in nurturing the development of germ cells in the adult gonad. Sertoli cells in the testis support the progression of spermatogonial stem cells through meiosis to the production of motile spermatozoa. Granulosa cells, meanwhile, are a critical component of the ovarian follicle that produces the mature oocyte.

Each fungal endophytic strain was identified by sequencing of internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions of rDNA. Ethyl acetate extracts were prepared from each endophyte cultivated in vitro and tested for their respective antibacterial activities and antiproliferative activities against human cancer cells.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTestis determination in mammals is initiated by expression of SRY in somatic cells of the embryonic gonad. Genetic analyses in the mouse have revealed a requirement for mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling in testis determination: targeted loss of the kinases MAP3K4 and p38 MAPK causes complete XY embryonic gonadal sex reversal. These kinases occupy positions at the top and bottom level, respectively, in the canonical three-tier MAPK-signaling cascade: MAP3K, MAP2K, MAPK.

The two commercial titania photocatalysts, Aeroxide P25 (Evonik industries) exhibiting both rutile and anatase structures and MPT625 (Ishihara Sangyo Kaisha), a Fe-, Al-, P- and S-doped titania exhibiting only the rutile phase, are active suggesting that neither the structure nor the doping is the driving parameter. Although the MPT625 UV-visible spectrum is shifted towards the visible domain with respect to the P25 one, the effect on bacteria is not increased.

The existence of a gonad primordium with 2 possible developmental outcomes, depending on the presence or absence of the Y chromosome, remains a fascinating paradigm for examining the manner in which genes cooperate to establish cell fate and regulate differentiation. Development of the mouse gonad offers a unique model for the investigation of sex determination, characterised by powerful transgenic, genomic and other experimental resources for the study of the molecular control of organogenesis.

This study investigates the mechanisms of UV-A (315 to 400 nm) photocatalysis with titanium dioxide (TiO2) applied to the degradation of Escherichia coli and their effects on two key cellular components: lipids and proteins. The impact of TiO2 photocatalysis on E. coli survival was monitored by counting on agar plate and by assessing lipid peroxidation and performing proteomic analysis.

Capillary cytometry, coupled to a double-staining method for visualizing membrane integrity as a cell viability indicator, was highlighted as a rapid, easy-to-use, and automated numeration technique for quantitative and reproducible determination of cellular viability and thus, was able to give an accurate evaluation of the bactericidal effect of UV-A photocatalysis. Cytometry also enabled the study of TiO2-bacteria interactions and aggregation in the dark as well as TiO2 cytotoxicity.
