A frequency comb stabilized Ti:Sa laser as a self-reference for ion-trap experiments with a Ca ion.

In this study, we report on the stabilization of a continuous-wave Ti:Sa laser to an optical frequency comb. The laser is emitting at 866 nm to address one of the transitions required for Doppler cooling of a single Ca ion in a linear Paul trap (D ↔P1/22). The stabilized Ti:Sa laser is utilized to calibrate an ultra-accurate wavelength meter.

These negative consequences have had a significant impact on the well-being of children and adolescents.

Prevention and contrast of child abuse and neglect in the practice of European paediatricians: a multi-national pilot study.

Background: Child abuse and neglect, or maltreatment, is a serious public health problem, which may cause long-term effects on children's health and wellbeing and expose them to further adulthood vulnerabilities. Studies on child maltreatment performed in Europe are scarce, and the number of participants enrolled relatively small. The aim of this multi-national European pilot study, was to evaluate the level of understanding and perception of the concepts of child abuse and neglect by European paediatricians working in different medical settings, and the attitude toward these forms of maltreatment in their practice.

Introduction: the recent economic and financial crisis has affected most Western countries, especially families of low socioeconomic classes. We speculate that worsening of socioeconomic condition associated with the crisis would increase obesity, mainly in disadvantaged families.

Material And Methods: cross-sectional study of the 290,111 children aged three to 12 years old attending public school during the term 2014-2015 in Madrid City, by means of a stratified weighted sample randomly chosen, taking into account age (grade), city district and schools.

Migrant children's health problems, care needs, and inequalities: European primary care paediatricians' perspective.

Background: Primary care paediatricians' perception of migrant children's health in Europe has not been explored before. Our aim was to examine European paediatricians' knowledge on migrant children's health problems, needs, inequalities, and barriers to access health care.

Methods: European primary care paediatricians were invited by the European Academy of Paediatrics Research in Ambulatory Setting Network country coordinators to complete a web-based survey concerning health care of migrant children.

These effects have very convenient applications in Raman amplification, optical fiber metrology, and fiber sensing. High-power and high-accuracy integrating sphere radiometer: design, characterization, and calibration.

We describe the design, characterization, and calibration of a high-power and high-accuracy transfer standard for optical power measurements in fibers based on an integrating sphere radiometer working from -50 to +30 dBm. The integrating sphere radiometer has been calibrated in the spectral range 1250-1650 nm by use of an electrically calibrated pyroelectric radiometer and four tunable laser diodes. The total uncertainty obtained is less than +/-0.
