Post-traumatic hydrocephalus is common after traumatic brain injury (TBI), particularly following decompressive craniectomy. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) removal by lumbar drain (LD) aids in the workup of post-traumatic hydrocephalus and serves as a bridge to definitive CSF diversion. Hemorrhagic complications following LD are rare but can include intracranial hemorrhage.

Methods: Patients from six centers (2005-2020) with clinical stage I-II MCC who underwent sentinel lymph node (SLN) biopsy were included. Factors associated with DSS were identified using competing-risks regression analysis.
Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is a rare disease that encompasses a spectrum of clinical syndromes. It is characterized by the proliferation and infiltration of white blood cells into organs or organ systems. Reports of management of these lesions have included biopsy, resection, curettage, radiation, and/or chemotherapy.

Objective: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is present in approximately 2% to 5% of children; however, only 15% of parents are reported to be knowledgeable about OSA in children. Sleep apnea in children can lead to cardiopulmonary disease, abnormal weight gain, failure to thrive, or learning difficulties. The purpose of our study is to assess parental knowledge of pediatric OSA to identify any knowledge gaps.

The current study sought to identify high-risk SN-positive AJCC stage IIIA patients who are more likely to derive benefit from adjuvant systemic therapy.
Methods: Patients were recruited from an intercontinental (Australia/Europe/North America) consortium of nine high-volume cancer centers.
Background: Anxiety disorders are common in childhood and adolescence but evidence-based guidance on their management is limited in the UK. In the absence of guidelines, we examined what treatment young people with anxiety disorders receive in primary care in the year following diagnosis.
Method: We delineated a cohort of individuals diagnosed with anxiety disorders aged 10-18 using the Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD).
The individuals who served our country in the aftermath of the attacks on the World Trade Center (WTC) following the attacks of 11 September 2001 have, since then, been diagnosed with a number of conditions as a result of their exposures. In the present study, we sought to determine whether these conditions were risk factors for increased COVID-19 disease severity within a cohort of N = 1280 WTC responders with complete information on health outcomes prior to and following COVID-19 infection. We collected data on responders diagnosed with COVID-19, or had evidence of receiving positive SARS-CoV-2 polymerase chain reaction or antigen testing, or were asymptomatic but had IgG positive antibody testing.

It is common for these patients to develop neck/back pain and pathology that warrants surgical intervention. However, there is a relative dearth of literature examining their outcomes and clinical considerations.

Cosmetic and reconstructive surgeons have been contacting affected patients to encourage them to follow up and discuss the most appropriate risk-reduction strategies.
Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate patient concerns about the risk of breast implant-associated ALCL (BIA-ALCL) and to compare management differences between cosmetic and reconstructive patients.
Objective: To determine if intolerance of uncertainty, depression, anxiety, worry, or stress are related to post-op regret in otolaryngology patients.
Methods: Adult patients or parents giving consent for pediatric patients meeting criteria for otolaryngologic surgery were recruited and completed the Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale (IUS-12), Penn State Worry Questionnaire (PSWQ), and Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21) preop and the Decisional Regret (DR) scale 1-month post-op. Pearson correlations were calculated.
The co-inhibitory immune checkpoint interaction between programmed cell death-protein 1 (PD-1) and programmed cell death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) serves to regulate T-cell activation, promoting self-tolerance. Over-expression of PD-L1 is a mechanism through which tumour cells can evade detection by the immune system. Several therapeutic antibodies targeting PD-L1 or PD-1 have been approved for the treatment of a variety of cancers, however, the discovery and development of small-molecule inhibitors of PD-L1 remains a challenge.

Guidelines recommend using oral anticoagulants (OACs) to prevent the development of stroke. However, studies have reported the frequent underuse of OACs in AF patients.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground And Purpose: Screening scales are recommended to assist field-based triage of acute stroke patients to designated stroke centers. Cincinnati prehospital stroke scale (CPSS) is a commonly used prehospital stroke screening tool and has been validated to identify large vessel occlusion (LVO). This study addresses the impact of county-based CPSS implementation to triage suspected LVO patients to a comprehensive stroke center (CSC).

The study aims to analyze the outcome of patients with ITM treated with ICI based on data from a large cohort of patients treated at international referral clinics.
Methods: A multicenter retrospective cohort study of patients treated between January 2015 and December 2020 from Australia, Europe, and the USA, evaluating treatment with ICI for ITM with or without nodal involvement (AJCC8 N1c, N2c, and N3c) and without distant disease (M0).
Histophilus somni is a prevalent commensal organism of the upper respiratory tract of cattle and a major causative agent of bovine respiratory disease (BRD) and other syndromes including myocarditis and infectious thromboembolic meningoencephalitis. This study investigated the antimicrobial susceptibility and phylogenetic relationships of H. somni isolates obtained from lung, heart, and other tissues at post-mortem as well as nasal mucosa swabs from cases of BRD in Australian feedlots (2004-2019).

Background: Pediatric benign laryngeal tumors can often be treated as same-day surgeries. This study identified factors associated with prolonged hospital stay in children undergoing laryngeal surgery for benign tumors.
Methods: A retrospective analysis of records of pediatric patients who underwent laryngeal surgery with a post-op diagnosis of benign tumor was performed with the American College of Surgeons Pediatric National Surgery Quality Improvement Program (ACS-NSQIP-P) database (2014-2018).
SARS-CoV-2 RNA quantification in wastewater is an important tool for monitoring the prevalence of COVID-19 disease on a community scale which complements case-based surveillance systems. As novel variants of concern (VOCs) emerge there is also a need to identify the primary circulating variants in a community, accomplished to date by sequencing clinical samples. Quantifying variants in wastewater offers a cost-effective means to augment these sequencing efforts.

Those patients are usually found to have low-volume metastatic disease after SNB, typically reclassified to AJCC stage IIIA, with an excellent prognosis of ~90% 5-year survival. Currently, adjuvant systemic therapy is not routinely recommended for most patients with AJCC stage IIIA melanoma.

Tamdy virus (TAMV) is an emerging zoonotic tick-borne arbovirus in the genus Orthonairovirus. Reports of human infections with TAMV have been increasing and development of a rapid detection assay is thus urgently required. In the present study, singleplex and dual-target real-time reverse transcription PCR (qRT-PCR) assays were established for the detection of TAMV.
