Chimeric antigen receptor-T (CAR-T) cells directed against B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA) are an effective treatment for multiple myeloma (MM), but short persistence and frequent relapses are challenges for this immunotherapy. This lack of durability has been attributed to the premature terminal differentiation of CAR-T cells which prevents the formation of long-lived memory cells that maintain anti-tumour responses. Complement-mediated thrombotic microangiopathy (CM-TMA) is a rare and life-threatening complication that can occur in kidney transplant recipients, with various potential triggers including immunosuppressive medications. The optimal management and duration of treatment with C5 inhibitors (C5i) for CM-TMA in this patient population remain areas of ongoing investigation. Background: Models developed to predict hospital-acquired acute kidney injury (HA-AKI) in non-critically ill patients have a low sensitivity, do not include dynamic changes of risk factors and do not allow the establishment of a time relationship between exposure to risk factors and AKI. This paper presents a grammatical evolution (GE)-based methodology to automatically design third generation artificial neural networks (ANNs), also known as spiking neural networks (SNNs), for solving supervised classification problems. The proposal performs the SNN design by exploring the search space of three-layered feedforward topologies with configured synaptic connections (weights and delays) so that no explicit training is carried out. Besides, the designed SNNs have partial connections between input and hidden layers which may contribute to avoid redundancies and reduce the dimensionality of input feature vectors.
