Focal nodular hyperplasia (FNH) is a benign, usually asymptomatic liver tumor with no predisposition to spontaneous hemorrhage. Treatment is not mandatory unless large size, compression symptoms, or fear of traumatic hemorrhage indicate otherwise. Ethanol embolotherapy offers a safe and effective alternative to surgery.

Impregnating sections in a 60 C water bath, the procedure takes about 25 min. A microwave version that takes about 5 min is also given.

Subsequently, the compound isolated from postmortem human brain tissue was unequivocally identified as KYNA by nuclear magnetic resonance and mass spectrometric analyses. Regional distribution analyses revealed the highest concentration of KYNA (1.

Two hundred forty-three charts were sufficiently complete to be evaluated. Of the 211 patients receiving corticosteroids and cyclosporine (CyA) as immunosuppression, 25 had at least one documented episode of gout (9.

Nuclei and elastic fibers are stained by a modified Verhoeff's elastic tissue stain which was previously developed and used in the elastic-Masson combination. Both early fibrin and red blood cells are shown by lissamine fast yellow.

Clinical signs generally begin toward the end of the first or during the second year of life. We are aware of at least 4 cases of pre- or perinatal onset of this condition, and report here on 2 brothers who were affected at birth and had an unusual clinical course with onset of peripheral gangrene that progressed to autoamputation of digits.

Nineteen cadaver renal allografts were transplanted into 18 recipients. All 18 recipients had previously rejected at least two prior allografts.

Neither patient had neutralizing antibody to herpes simplex virus before transplantation, and both had herpes simplex virus isolated from surveillance cultures of urine before the onset of clinical symptoms. A clear focus of primary infection was not found in either patient.

Neutrophilic eccrine hidradenitis is a rare but distinct dermatosis that has recently been described in adults with acute myelogenous leukemia. We report the first pediatric case in an 11-year-old girl with acute myelomonocytic leukemia who developed this eruption following her first and second course of VAPA-10 induction chemotherapy. Skin biopsy revealed selective neutrophilic infiltration around the eccrine coils, which is characteristic of this dermatosis.

The purpose of the present investigation was to determine whether dietary K depletion would stimulate further renal growth in rats subject to 5/6 nephrectomy. In 36 rats renal mass was reduced by left 2/3 nephrectomy and right complete nephrectomy. Rats were fed either a normal or K-free diet.
