The effectiveness of individual-, group-, and community-level HIV behavioral risk-reduction interventions for adult men who have sex with men: a systematic review.

This article presents the results of a systematic review of the effectiveness and economic efficiency of individual-, group-, and community-level behavioral interventions intended to reduce the risk of acquiring sexually transmitted HIV in adult men who have sex with men (MSM). These results form the basis for recommendations by the Task Force on Community Preventive Services on the use of these interventions. Sexual risk behavior and condom use were the outcomes used to assess effectiveness.

Heterogeneity of risk among African-American men who have sex with men.

The objective of this study was to examine the social mixing and sexual risk taking of African-American men who have sex with men (AAMSM). The design was a cross-sectional survey with targeted, ethnographically informed recruitment of respondents (n = 95), and subsequent recruitment of their network partners (n = 63). We ascertained current demographics, occupation, peer norms for sexual activity, community involvement, and information about members of their social and sexual network.

Addressing urban health in Detroit, New York City, and Seattle through community-based participatory research partnerships.

Objective: This study describes key activities integral to the development of 3 community-based participatory research (CBPR) partnerships.

Methods: We compared findings from individual case studies conducted at 3 urban research centers (URCs) to identify crosscutting adaptations of a CBPR approach in the first 4 years of the partnerships' development.

Results: Activities critical in partnership development include sharing decision-making, defining principles of collaboration, establishing research priorities, and securing funding.
