A Longitudinal Study of Vocal Symptomatology in Teachers During Distance, Hybrid, and In-Person Teaching.

Objective: To compare the vocal symptomatology of professors from a federal university who engaged in distance, hybrid, and face-to-face teaching during and after the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic period.

Method: The study included 40 university professors, 20 men and 20 women, whose symptomatology was monitored at three time points: during the distance teaching period due to social isolation caused by COVID-19, in hybrid teaching (partial return), and upon returning to face-to-face teaching, which required the use of face masks and posed contamination risks.

Results: The hybrid phase presented the highest absence of vocal complaints/discomfort, and most participants did not need to be reassigned due to vocal problems.

Clinical Study of Photobiomodulation Effect at Postoperative Clefted Alveolar Ridge Bone Grafting.

This study aimed to evaluate photobiomodulation (PBM) adjunct effect on pain, swelling, and face temperature in individuals with oral cleft submitted to alveolar ridge bone grafting (ABG). The sample consisted of 46 patients with either incomplete or complete unilateral cleft lip and palate aged from 9 to 18 years, both sexes, who underwent ABG with chin donor area. Subjects were randomly divided into 3 groups: (1) Control (C): ABG (n=17); (2) PBM: ABG with PBM (n=14); (3) Simulated photobiomodulation (SPBM): ABG with SPBM (n=15).

Anaemia among school children of different socioeconomical status in a city of Southern Brazil.

Iron deficiency is one of the leading causes of anaemia, with those most affected being children and women of childbearing age, in Brazil there is a scarcity of studies involving the local prevalence of anaemia. To evaluate anaemia and associated factors in schoolchildren in Santa Cruz do Sul through the analysis of biochemical and haematological markers and parasitological examination of faeces. School children from 10 to 12 years of age were evaluated through complete blood count, serum ferritin, C-reactive protein and stool parasitological examination, as well as socio-demographic characteristics and prophylaxis with ferrous sulphate in childhood.

The Development of Thematic Core Collections in Cassava Based on Yield, Disease Resistance, and Root Quality Traits.

Thematic collections (TCs), which are composed of genotypes with superior agronomic traits and reduced size, offer valuable opportunities for parental selection in plant breeding programs. Three TCs were created to focus on crucial attributes: root yield (CC_Yield), pest and disease resistance (CC_Disease), and root quality traits (CC_Root_quality). The genotypes were ranked using the best linear unbiased predictors (BLUP) method, and a truncated selection was implemented for each collection based on specific traits.

Validation of targeted selective treatment (TST) methodology for gastrointestinal parasites of adult sheep in different physiological states.

We aimed to validate a targeted selective treatment (TST) methodology for treating parasitic gastrointestinal infections in ewes in different physiological states using parasitological and hematological parameters. Forty ewes were monitored from December 2021 to June 2022 and evaluated during various physiological stages in their life cycle. Before starting the experiment, a fecal egg count (FEC) reduction test was performed to evaluate the efficacy of the anthelmintic (AH) treatment.

Development of cassava core collections based on morphological and agronomic traits and SNPS markers.

Cassava ( Crantz) holds significant importance as one of the world's key starchy crop species. This study aimed to develop core collections by utilizing both phenotypic data (15 quantitative and 33 qualitative descriptors) and genotypic data (20,023 single-nucleotide polymorphisms) obtained from 1,486 cassava accessions. Six core collections were derived through two optimization strategies based on genetic distances: Average accession-to-nearest-entry and Average entry-to-nearest-entry, along with combinations of phenotypic and genotypic data.

Photobiomodulation and Inorganic Bovine Bone in Guided Bone Regeneration: Histomorphometric Analysis in Rats.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of photobiomodulation in the bone regeneration of critical-sized defects (CSD) filled with inorganic bovine bone associated or not with collagen membranes. The study has been conducted on 40 critical defects in the calvaria of male rats, divided into four experimental groups ( = 10): (1) DBBM (deproteinized bovine bone mineral); (2) GBR (DBBM+collagen membrane); (3) DBBM+P (DBBM+photobiomodulation); and (4) GBR+P (GBR+photobiomodulation). At 30 days postoperative, the animals were euthanized, and after the tissue had been processed, histological, histometric, and statistical analyses were performed.

Relationship between boldness and exploratory behavior in adult zebrafish.

Behavioral responses vary between individuals and may be repeated in different contexts over time. When a behavioral response set is linked and present regardless of the context, it characterizes a behavioral syndrome. By evaluating how bold and shy (profiles related to risk-taking) individuals perform about exploration and anxiety, we can predict relationships of behavioral syndromes and better understand how different axis of personality is formed.

Oil in Northeast Brazil: mapping conflicts and impacts of the largest disaster on the country's coast.

The crude oil spill on the Brazilian coast in 2019 is considered the largest environmental disaster of this nature in the country. It had important repercussions on the environment and on the living and health conditions of the population, particularly artisanal fishermen, intensifying the vulnerability process, causing situations of injustice and environmental conflicts with negative repercussions on the territories. Aiming to analyze this environmental conflict and its impacts on environment and health of the affected population, the study applied the method proposed by the Global Atlas of Environmental Justice.

Sensitive Zika biomarker detection assisted by quantum dot-modified electrochemical immunosensing platform.

We report the development of a new nanostructured electrochemical immunosensing platform for the detection of the Zika virus envelope protein (EP-ZIKV). For this, quantum dots (QDs) were explored in combination with screen-printed carbon electrodes (SPCEs) functionalized with a conductor polymeric film, formed from 2-(1H-pyrrol-1-yl)ethanamine (Py), and anti-EP DIII ZIKV antibodies. Carboxylated CdTe QDs were synthesized, characterized by optical and structural techniques, and covalently immobilized onto the SPCE/PPy surface.

The detailed dose analysis at the extremities remains a challenge, without affecting operators' mobility and their tactile sense. Using films loaded with optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) crystals have been studied in order to overcome some of these challenges in 2D dosimetry. In this work, we investigated flexible polymeric films loaded with MgB4O7:Ce,Li to acquire a better understanding of the dependence of the dosimetric signal characteristics on the production process and the influence of using different powder grain sizes.

Intestinal transit rhythm and associated factors during the COVID-19 pandemic: A pilot study.

Background & Aims: Social distancing may lead to changes in lifestyle, such as the reduction in physical exercise practice, dietary changes, weight alterations, as well as intestinal rhythm. Our study aimed to investigate the intestinal transit rhythm of adults during social distancing due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in association with sociodemographic variables, physical activity, nutritional status, frequency of food intake, and water intake.

Methods: Our cross-sectional study comprised an online questionnaire that was shared by the internet concerning demographic information (sex and age); physical activity; anthropometric data (reported weight and height); dietary habits information (food frequency of simple high-carbohydrates foods, whole food, and processed foods; water intake; intestinal transit rhythm).

Involvement of Th1Th17 Cell Subpopulations in the Immune Responses of Mothers Who Gave Birth to Children with Congenital Zika Syndrome (CZS).

High levels of T helper 17 cell (Th17)-related cytokines have been shown in acute Zika virus (ZIKV) infection. We hypothesized that the high levels of Th17-related cytokines, associated with a regulatory environment during pregnancy, create a favorable milieu for the differentiation of CD4+Th17 cells. We present data from a cross-sectional study on mothers who confirmed ZIKV infection by qRT-PCR and their children.

Objective: To analyze the effect of phonation in a glass tube immersed in water compared to other interventions on general degree of vocal deviation, fundamental frequency, sound pressure level, and vocal self-assessment in vocally healthy individuals.

Methods: This is a systematic review and meta-analysis developed from the research question: "In vocally healthy individuals, what is the effect of phonation into a glass tube immersed in water versus other vocal interventions, other activities, or no intervention on general degree of vocal deviation, fundamental frequency, sound pressure level, and vocal self-assessment?" An electronic search was performed using Medline, LILACS, Cochrane Library, Embase, Web of Science, and SCOPUS databases, and a manual search was performed in the gray literature (Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations and OpenGrey), the Journal of Voice, and the citations of the studies. Studies with (P) population of adults with healthy voices, (I) intervention with phonation into a glass tube immersed in water, (C) comparison with other vocal interventions, other activities, or no intervention, (O) outcomes of the general degree of vocal deviation, fundamental frequency, sound pressure level, and vocal self-assessment, and an (S) study with the experimental or quasi-experimental design were included.

Ultrasound-mediated radical cascade reactions: Fast synthesis of functionalized indolines from 2-(((N-aryl)amino)methyl)acrylates.

Novel functionalized indolines were synthesized from 2-(((N-aryl)amino)methyl)acrylates and formamides under ultrasonic irradiation for the first time. Aiming to develop a straightforward and easy-to-implement methodology for the synthesis of indolines, an instrumentation setup was designed, including ultrasound (US) equipment (Ultrasonic Horn; tip diameter of 12.7 mm, 20 kHz, maximum power of 400 W), an open reaction flask, and an inexpensive and green catalyst (1 mol%; FeSO·7HO; CAS: 7782-63-0) without the need for anhydrous conditions.

Different Profiles of Cytokines, Chemokines and Coagulation Mediators Associated with Severity in Brazilian Patients Infected with Dengue Virus.

The incidence of dengue in Latin America has increased dramatically during the last decade. Understanding the pathogenic mechanisms in dengue is crucial for the identification of biomarkers for the triage of patients. We aimed to characterize the profile of cytokines (IFN-γ, TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, IL-18 and IL-10), chemokines (CXCL8/IL-8, CCL2/MCP-1 and CXCL10/IP-10) and coagulation mediators (Fibrinogen, D-dimer, Tissue factor-TF, Tissue factor pathway inhibitor-TFPI and Thrombomodulin) during the dengue-4 epidemic in Brazil.

Liver and kidney function markers among gym users: the role of dietary supplement usage.

Dietary supplements have been increasingly used by gym users and are often consumed without the guidance of a health professional. Moreover, the indiscriminate supplements use can have adverse health effects, such as changes in liver and kidney function. The aim of this study was to verify the association between dietary supplements intake with alterations in the liver and kidney function among gym users.
