Objective: To evaluate access to trial of labor after cesarean (TOLAC) in a large metropolitan city.
Study Design: In 2012, a public tertiary care hospital in Houston, TX promoted its TOLAC services on social media, resulting in a surge of self-referrals. In 2018, an electronic survey was distributed by email to 200 women who had previously contacted the hospital regarding TOLAC and posted on 2 local social media TOLAC sites.
Purpose Of Review: Women's health includes comprehensive physical, mental and preventive care. This section will provide an overview of some of the most common disorders that can impact the health and quality of life (QOL) of women with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs).
Recent Findings: Women with IBD are at higher risk for cervical dysplasia compared to healthy controls with most cases preventable with vaccination.
Background: There is equivocal evidence regarding differences in the clinical course and outcomes of Crohn's disease (CD) among African Americans compared with Caucasian Americans. We sought to analyze whether African Americans with CD are more likely to be hospitalized for CD-related complications when compared with Caucasian Americans with CD.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study including 909 African Americans and Caucasian Americans with CD who were seen at our tertiary care Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) referral center between 2000 and 2013.
With an estimated 207,090 patients diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010, the role of chemotherapy-induced cognitive impairment is of growing importance. Studies to determine the impact of chemotherapy-induced cognitive impairment have been hindered by difficulties in study-design, in particular, study methodology. Here, we present a review of existing studies and discuss several mechanisms for chemotherapy-induced neurocognitive impairment in breast cancer patients, such as direct neurotoxic injury, telomere shortening, oxidative stress, cytokine dysregulation, estrogen-mediated effects, and the role of certain genetic polymorphisms.
