Intralesional Bleomycin as an Adjunct Therapeutic Modality in Eyelid and Extraocular Malignancies and Tumors.

To present our recent experience with intralesional bleomycin (IBI) in nonmelanoma extraocular tumors, and present previous experience on periocular capillary hemangiomas and orbital lymphangiomas in a tertiary referral hospital. This was a retrospective descriptive study of patients with eyelid and extraocular malignancies where conventional therapies failed, or surgery was contraindicated or refused and were offered IBI as an alternate therapy. All patients were recruited from the Oculoplastics Clinic at Tygerberg Academic Hospital, Cape Town, South Africa.

Intralesional bleomycin: a potential treatment for refractory orbital lymphangiomas.

The authors present 4 cases of orbital lymphangioma that had not responded to conventional therapy but responded positively to intralesional bleomycin injections. In this retrospective case series, patients were recruited from the Oculoplastics Clinic at Tygerberg Academic Hospital with histologic and/or radiologic evidence of microcystic and macrocytic deep and/or combined orbital lymphangioma. All 4 cases had multiple prior intralesional steroid injections.

Viral ocular manifestations: a broad overview.

The viruses able to affect the eye are taxonomically diverse, ranging from double-stranded DNA viruses, to single stranded RNA viruses, to retroviruses. Any part of the eye may be affected, frequently producing blepharitis, conjunctivitis, keratitis, uveitis, cataract and retinitis. The more common ocular viral infections include the Herpesviruses such as HSV-1, VZV and CMV.

Macular thickness measured by optical coherence tomography correlates with proteinuria in pre-eclampsia.

Objectives: Pre-eclampsia is associated with ocular changes. The aim of this study was to examine the macular changes of patients with early-onset severe pre-eclampsia using optical coherence tomography (OCT).

Methods: This prospective study was performed at Tygerberg Academic Hospital, a secondary and tertiary referral centre in Cape Town, South Africa.
