In recent years, there has been a notable surge in the popularity of beetroot-based dietary supplements, driven by their rich nitrate composition. Several types of beetroot-based dietary supplements can be found in markets worldwide; however, ensuring the safety of dietary supplements is a crucial consideration, as there is limited evidence on their safety, especially for older populations. Therefore, the purpose of the current study was to evaluate the safety and tolerability of a nitrate-rich beetroot extract in older participants taking supplements over 12 weeks.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Cecropia pachystachya (CP) Trécul is a medicinal plant native to South and Central America with several pharmacological properties, such as anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective.

Aim Of The Study: In this study, we investigated the effect of CP extract (200 mg/kg) and its enriched flavonoid fraction (EFF-CP) (50 and 100 mg/kg) in a model of lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced neuroinflammation.

Material And Methods: CP and EFF-CP were administered intragastrically for 14 days and LPS (250 μg/kg) was administered intraperitoneally from the 8th to the 14th days.

Background: Prostate cancer (PCa) is the most diagnosed invasive cancer and a leading cause of death in men in western countries. Most patients initially respond to androgen deprivation but finally develop hormone-refractory disease, which results in advanced clinical failure and death. Since hormone-refractory disease is highly radiotherapy and chemotherapy resistant, increasing interest has been placed on finding novel therapies for this advanced type of Pca.

There is increasing interest in natural antioxidants that are candidates for the prevention of brain damage occurring in major depressive disorders. Cecropia pachystachya is a tropical tree species of Central and South America and a rich source of polyphenols, particularly flavonoids. The aim of this study was to characterize the flavonoid profile of an enriched flavonoid fraction of C.

Studies employing Snethl leaves have shown great potential in regard to their antiviral activity, mainly related to the phenolic compounds present in this species. The main goal of this work is to combine the therapeutic potential of this species with new technological strategies targeted at the development of an herbal nanoparticulate system for the preparation of a phytotherapeutic formulation. Poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) nanoparticles containing the enriched flavonoid fraction of Snethl were developed through a study for the choice of preparation technique, amount of drug and surfactants used.

Tropospheric ozone (O3) background concentrations have increased since pre-industrial times, reaching phytotoxic concentrations in many regions globally. However, the effect of high O3 concentrations on quality of fruit and vegetables remains unknown. Here, we evaluated whether O3 pollution alters the quality of Capsicum baccatum peppers by changing the secondary compound profiles and biological activity of the fruit.

The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of an enriched C-glycosyl flavonoids fraction (EFF-Cp) from Cecropia Pachystachya leaves on behavior, mitochondrial chain function, and oxidative balance in the brain of rats subjected to chronic mild stress. Male Wistar rats were divided into experimental groups (saline/no stress, saline/stress, EFF-Cp/no stress, and EFF-Cp/stress). ECM groups were submitted to stress for 40 days.

Cecropia species are widely used in traditional medicine by its anti-diabetic, anti-hypertensive and anti-inflammatory properties. In the present study, we investigated the neuroprotective and antioxidant effects of the crude aqueous extract from Cecropia pachystachya leaves in a rat model of mania induced by ketamine. The results indicated that ketamine treatment (25 mg/kg i.

Although Vitex megapotamica (Spreng.) Moldenke is used in Brazilian folk medicine as hypolipidemic drug no study has been conducted to evaluate the effects of this species in an experimental model of atherosclerosis. So, the aim of this study was to evaluate the possible renoprotective activity of methanolic extract obtained from Vitex megapotamica (MEVM) using C57BL/6 LDLr-null mice submitted to high fat diet (HFD).

Chronic stressful stimuli influence disease susceptibility to depression, cardiovascular, metabolic and neurodegenerative disorders. The present work investigated antidepressant and antioxidant properties of the aqueous extract from Cecropia pachystachya in a mouse model of chronic unpredictable stress (CUS). Our results indicated that acute administration of the aqueous extract (AE) from C.
