Indocyanine green dye and its application in gastrointestinal surgery: The future is bright green.

Indocyanine green (ICG) is a water-soluble fluorescent dye that is minimally toxic and widely used in gastrointestinal surgery. ICG facilitates anatomical identification of structures ( ureters), assessment of lymph nodes, biliary mapping, organ perfusion and anastomosis assessment, and aids in determining the adequacy of oncological margins. In addition, ICG can be conjugated to artificially created antibodies for tumour markers, such as carcinoembryonic antigen for colorectal, breast, lung, and gastric cancer, prostate-specific antigen for prostate cancer, and cancer antigen 125 for ovarian cancer.

Intra-Abdominal Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumor (DSRCT) and the Role of Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC): A Review.

Desmoplastic small round cell tumor is a very rare and highly aggressive soft tissue sarcoma, usually presenting with multiple intra-abdominal tumors in young males. Patients present with advanced disease and the overall survival is dismal. Multiple studies report relatively favorable outcomes with multimodal treatment consisting of chemotherapy, surgery and radiotherapy.

Management of recurrent retroperitoneal sarcomas.

Recurrent retroperitoneal sarcomas are rare, with patterns of recurrence determined by the histologic subtype. A range of patient characteristics and treatment profiles combined with a myriad of presentations and clinical courses of recurrences make this diverse entity challenging to manage. Although surgical resection improves survival in select patients, the oncological outcomes are inferior to that of primary retroperitoneal sarcomas.

Retroperitoneal and Mesenteric Liposarcomas.

Retroperitoneal liposarcomas are a rare entity and are comprised mostly of the well-differentiated and dedifferentiated subtypes. Eight-year survival ranges from 30% to 80% depending on histologic subtype and grade. Surgery is the cornerstone of treatment and compartment resection is the current standard.

Noninvasive follicular thyroid neoplasm with papillary-like nuclear features and the risk of malignancy in thyroid cytology: Data from Singapore.

Introduction: The impact of noninvasive follicular thyroid neoplasm with papillary-like nuclear features (NIFTP) on the risk of malignancy (ROM) in fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) per The Bethesda System for Reporting Thyroid Cytopathology has not been well reported in Singapore.

Methods: We retrospectively identified 821 thyroid nodules with preoperative FNAC from 788 patients out of 1,279 consecutive thyroidectomies performed between January 2010 and August 2016 in a tertiary general hospital in Singapore. Possible cases of NIFTP were reviewed for reclassification and the impact of NIFTP on ROM was analysed.

Dedifferentiated liposarcoma with a rare presentation of disseminated intraperitoneal sarcomatosis: A case report.

Introduction: Dedifferentiated liposarcoma is rare and tends to present with discrete tumors in the retroperitoneum, limbs and trunk. Majority of cases arise de-novo as primary tumors, while a minority occur as recurrences of well-differentiated liposarcomas. There has been no previous report of dedifferentiated liposarcoma presenting as disseminated intraperitoneal sarcomatosis.
