Neonatal screening is a critical public health initiative introduced worldwide to detect severe congenital disorders early in life. This study provides an updated overview of public neonatal screening in Brazil, highlighting the transition from initial pilot projects to a robust national program. Through the analysis of recent data up to 2023, we discuss the coverage and regional efficiencies of the program.

Although these infections decreased during the COVID-19 pandemic, some countries have observed an increased number of invasive GAS (iGAS) diseases in recent years. The objective of this study was to describe a series of iGAS diseases in a referral hospital for the treatment of pediatric infectious disease in Minas Gerais State, Brazil, between September 2022 and August 2023.

Lower limb muscle function is critical for fall prevention in older adults, and hip abductor force and rapid force development have been shown to be important during stepping tasks. However, it remains unclear whether hip abductor muscle function changes with aging.

Background: The rapid spread and increase of chikungunya (CHIKV) and dengue (DENV) cases in Brazilian regions in 2023 has raised concerns about the impact of arboviruses on public health. Epidemiological and genomic surveillance was performed to estimate the introduction and spread of CHIKV and DENV in Brazil.
Methods: This study obtained results from the Hermes Pardini (HP), a private medical laboratory, and the Health Department of Minas Gerais state (SES-MG).

B-cell lymphoma 2 protein (Bcl-2) is an important regulator of cell apoptosis. Inhibitors that mirror the structural domain 3 (BH3) of Bcl-2 can activate apoptosis in cancer cells, making them a promising target for anticancer treatment. Hence, the present study aimed to investigate potential BH3-mimetic peptides from two vicilin-derived legume proteins from soybean and cowpea bean.

This study aimed to map and understand the trends in cellulose processing using ILs by a patent analytic approach and technology life cycle modeling. The documents were searched on the Espacenet® and Orbit® platforms.

Introduction: Mucopolysaccharidosis type II (MPS II) is caused by deficiency of the enzyme iduronate-2-sulfatase; one possible therapy for MPS II is hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). It is established that there is excessive production of reactive species in MPS II patients, which can trigger several processes, such as the inflammatory cascade.
Objectives: Our aim was to outline an inflammatory profile and lipoperoxidation of MPS II patients for a better understanding of disease and possible benefits that HSCT can bring in these processes.

Pathogenic SOX11 variants have been associated with intellectual developmental disorder with microcephaly, and with or without ocular malformations or hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (HH) (IDDMOH, OMIM # 615866). In this article, we report seven new patients with de novo SOX11 variants. Five of the variants are missense, one nonsense, and one whole-gene deletion, most of them are novel variants.

However, due to the low representation of obese individuals in clinical trials, the effects of applying the results of this drug to this population remain uncertain.
Objectives: To compare Fondaparinux to Enoxaparin in the treatment of obese patients with ACS.
Biallelic pathogenic variants cause maple syrup urine disease (MSUD) in one of the branched-chain α-keto acid dehydrogenase (BCKDH) complex genes (BCKDHA, BCKDHB, DBT, DLD, and PPM1K) leading to the accumulation of leucine, isoleucine, and valine. This study aimed to perform a molecular diagnosis of Brazilian patients with MSUD using gene panels and massive parallel sequencing. Eighteen Brazilian patients with a biochemical diagnosis of MSUD were analyzed by massive parallel sequencing in the Ion PGM Torrent Server using a gene panel with the BCKDHA, BCKDHB, and DBT genes.

Background: Resistant infectious diseases caused by gram-negative bacteria are among the most serious worldwide health problems. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) have been explored as promising antibacterial, antibiofilm, and anti-infective candidates to address these health challenges.
Major Conclusions: Here we report the potent antibacterial effect of the peptide PaDBS1R6 on clinical bacterial isolates and identify an immunomodulatory peptide fragment incorporated within it.
New licuri-based kefir beverages were obtained using water kefir grains as fermentation inoculum (1, 2.5, and 5%) under different fermentation times (24 and 48 h). Metagenomic sequencing of the kefir grains adapted to the aqueous licuri extract revealed and to be predominant in this inoculum.

In recent years, açaí has been the subject of several studies due to its beneficial properties for health, including effects against tumor cells. Therefore, the present work aimed to evaluate in vitro the genotoxic and cytotoxic effects of the clarified extract of açaí juice in a human metastatic gastric cancer cell line (AGP01 cells).
