Comparative skull osteology of Amphisbaena arda and Amphisbaena vermicularis (Squamata: Amphisbaenidae).

The skull anatomy of amphisbaenians directly influences their capacity to burrow and is crucial for the study of their systematics, which ultimately contributes to our comprehension of their evolution and ecology. In this study, we employed three-dimensional X-ray computed tomography to provide a detailed description and comprehensive comparison of the skull anatomy of two amphisbaenian species with similar external morphology, Amphisbaena arda and Amphisbaena vermicularis. Our findings revealed some differences between the species, especially in the sagittal crest of the parietal bone, the ascendant process, and the transverse occipital crest of the occipital complex.

The Role of Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy in the Treatment of Muscle Injuries: A Systematic Review.

Muscle injuries commonly occur in sports and can be classified as indirect and direct, according to the 2013 Munich Consensus Statement (MCS). Since recent evidence suggests that extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) improves muscular microcirculation and may increase regeneration after acute muscle injury, we performed a systematic review following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement guidelines to access the efficacy and safety of ESWT in the treatment of patients with muscle injuries. PubMed and Cochrane were searched to screen for potentially relevant articles and the literature search was last updated in June 2023.

Historical aspects in pain management in palliative care in an oncological reference unit.

Objective: Describe the actions implemented for pain management in palliative care oncology and analyze the contribution of Hospital do Câncer IV, as a reference unit at the National Cancer Institute.

Methods: Study of the history of the present time, whose sources were written documents and interviews with five participants. The collection took place from February to June 2018.

The patient of this exposition is different from those previously described in the literature because it was a young adult, under 50 years of age, immunocompetent, with no comorbidities and no obvious focus of infection.

Chromomycosis, an unusual cause of cicatricial ectropion: a case report.

Chromomycosis is a fungal infection that affects the epidermis, dermis, and subcutaneous tissue and is caused by dematiaceous fungal species that turn black on staining. We report the case of a 50-year-old male patient who was a rural worker and had been treated without success for three decades. Facial lesions progressed and caused severe cicatricial retraction.
