The study evaluates the effectiveness of transperineal ultrasound compared to the preoperative pelvic organ prolapse quantification (POP-Q) system in diagnosing surgical pelvic organ prolapse (POP) in patients with symptoms.
Conducted over two years, the research included 167 patients who had both clinical examinations and ultrasounds before corrective surgery for symptomatic POP.
Results show that the ultrasound had a very good correlation in diagnosing uterine prolapse and cervical elongation, outperforming the moderate to good correlation from the traditional clinical examination.
