Bone cement implantation syndrome (BCIS) is a potentially serious complication after joint replacement surgery, resulting from bone marrow debris and cement embolisation, culminating in pulmonary and cardiovascular collapse. Echocardiography aids in diagnosis and management. We present a woman in her 80s with grade II BCIS.

VTE is a common cardiovascular disease, being the leading preventable cause of in-hospital death. Both surgical and acute medical patients have an elevated risk of developing VTE.

Therefore, the early diagnosis of caries lesions is a fundamental procedure for planning treatment aimed at prevention, minimal intervention and promotion of oral health. The present study aims to evaluate, through a randomized and controlled clinical study, which is the best strategy for diagnosing primary caries lesions located in the interproximal region.

The current study examines the bidirectional links between self-regulation related skills and expressive vocabulary in a longitudinal study during toddlerhood. Participants were 268 toddlers ( = 29.

The R-limonene (LC50 of 27 ppm) and control groups were analyzed 12 and 24 h after the beginning of treatments. The midgut of the control larvae was composed of cylindrical and elongated cells with a spherical and central nucleus and regenerative cells with a pyramidal shape.

A longitudinal study was conducted to compare the postoperative outcomes of patients who developed HBS in two different time frames: before and after implementing a protocol with an intensive electrolytic monitoring and an algorithm regarding electrolytic supplementation. Overall, 77 parathyroidectomies were included.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 150 children (aged 6-12 years). OT was performed by three independent examiners on a single occasion, obtaining three scores of 0-5 points on the Rosenberg's organoleptic scale.
Essential oils and their isolated constituents are constantly being studied for the control of insect pests. In this context, the present research reports the chemical composition of Piper marginatum (Jacq.) oil aiming to: 1) establish lethal concentrations LC30 and LC50 for this oil and the compound geraniol, 2) histologically examine the embryonic development of Spodoptera frugiperda (J.

Although common, its prevalence and associated etiological factors have been studied little in the child/adolescent population. The aim of the present study was to associate the occurrence of halitosis with oral etiological factors in children aged 6-12 years.

Living conditions in this setting exert a direct impact on health and self-care. Health care for the homeless population should be planned in an interdisciplinary and intersectoral manner.

Spodoptera frugiperda is a major pest in several crops due to its polyphagous habit. Studies on the use of essential oils for pest control have been increasing over the years, presenting itself as a promising alternative with less environmental impact. Chemical profile evaluations of essential oils enable the knowledge and use of major compounds, providing a better understanding of their actions in the life history of insects.

Objective: To verify the effects of the Pilates method on strength and muscular resistance, flexibility, postural balance and level of pain in a patient with traumatic spondylolisthesis at L4-L5.
Methods: The following evaluations were performed pre and post-intervention: resistance of the flexor and extensor muscles of the trunk; isokinetic peak torque of the extensor and flexor muscles of the knee; hip and torso flexibility; static postural balance; and the visual analog scale of pain.
This study examined the quality of the classroom climate and dyadic teacher-child relationships as predictors of self-regulation in a sample of socially disadvantaged preschool children (N = 206; 52 % boys). Children's self-regulation was observed in preschool at the beginning and at the end of the school year. At the middle of the preschool year, classroom observations of interactions were conducted by trained observers and teachers rated the quality of dyadic teacher-child relationships.

Materials And Methods: Fibroblasts were divided into three groups: group 1 (control), group 2 (Papacárie) and group 3 (Carisolv). Collagen I, III , fibronectin and osteonectin were analysed by immunofluorescence and compared among the groups.
Background: Chemomechanical removal of carious lesions consists of the dissolution of carious tissue by the application of a natural or synthetic agent, followed by atraumatic mechanical removal.
Aim: The aim of the present study was to assess the effectiveness of Papacarie Duo ® gel in the chemomechanical removal of carious lesions in primary teeth in comparison to the traditional method (low-speed bur).
Settings And Design: A randomized clinical trial was conducted with 20 children between 5 and 8 years of age.
Purpose: To determine associations between signs and symptoms of temporomandibular disorder (TMD) and harmful oral habits.
Materials And Methods: Two hundred forty-four adolescents from a public school in the city of São Roque, Brazil, were evaluated. A screening questionnaire for orofacial pain and TMD recommended by the American Academy of Orofacial Pain was used to determine signs and symptoms of TMD.
Objective: To determine whether there is a correlation between halitosis and mouth breathing in children.
Study Design: Fifty-five children between 3 and 14 years of age were divided into two groups (nasal and mouth breathing) for the assessment of halitosis. A descriptive analysis was conducted on the degree of halitosis in each group.
Trauma and pulpal infections in primary dentition are part of the routine of the pediatric dentist. Common consequences in these cases are alterations in dental color, compromising patient's esthetics and his interaction in social environment. Bleaching intends to preserve dental structure already weakened and to show immediate esthetic results.

Description: The authors report the case of a 52-day-old child presenting the main findings of the syndrome: rhizomelic micromelia, characteristic facies, suction difficulty and anthropometric measures below the expected indexes for his age. Skeletal radiographies showed humeri and femora shortening and calcifications stippling on shoulders, hips and knees joints.
