Influence of Genotype on Endometrial Angiogenesis during Early Pregnancy in Piau and Commercial Line Gilts.

This study aimed to evaluate the endometrial angiogenesis of pregnant commercial line and Piau gilts during early pregnancy. We used 27 gilts, divided into three groups according to the type of mating: Commercial (n = 9), commercial line females mated with commercial line males; Cross-mated (n = 9), Piau females mated with commercial line males; and Piau (n = 9), Piau females mated with Piau males. Each group was divided into three subgroups based on gestational age at the time of slaughter (7, 15, and 30 days of pregnancy).

Investigation of the Familial Risk of Rheumatic Heart Disease with Systematic Echocardiographic Screening: Data from the PROVAR+ Family Study.

We aimed to use echocardiographic (echo) screening to evaluate the risk of Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) among the relatives of patients with advanced RHD, who were enrolled in the University Hospital's outpatient clinics from February 2020 to September 2021. Consenting first-degree relatives were invited for echo screening using handheld devices (GE VSCAN) by non-physicians, with remote interpretation. Matched controls (spouses, neighbors) living in the same household were enrolled in a 1:5 fashion.

Proteomic analysis reveals changes in energy metabolism of skeletal muscle in beef cattle supplemented with vitamin A.

Background: Vitamin A has been reported as a factor influencing marbling deposition in meat from animals. Although the mechanisms by which vitamin A regulates lipid metabolism in mature adipocytes are already well-established, information regarding molecular mechanisms underlying the effects of vitamin A on the regulation of intramuscular fat deposition in beef cattle still remains limited. The present study aimed to assess the molecular mechanisms involved in the intramuscular fat deposition in beef cattle supplemented with vitamin A during the fattening phase using a proteomic approach.

Genetic parameters for fertility traits in Nellore bulls.

Nellore is the main cattle breed used in Brazil, being the largest commercial herd in the world. Beyond the importance of male reproductive efficiency for farm profit, the use of reproductive techniques, mainly artificial insemination, turns the evaluation of male reproductive traits even more important. Estimation of genetic parameters increases the knowledge on traits variances and allows envisaging the possibility of the inclusion of new traits as selection criterion.

[Acute pancreatitis and spontaneous rupture of pancreatic pseudocyst in systemic lupus erythematosus].

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease, with multisystemic involvement. Gastrointestinal symptoms are common, like nausea, vomiting and dyspepsia. Acute pancreatitis is an unusual manifestation of SLE, being an important differential diagnosis in evaluation of abdominal pain.

A proposed behavioral tool to assess sustained auditory attention.

Aim: a prospective study to propose a simple, easy and quick behavioral tool to support the assessment of sustained auditory attention.

Material And Methods: volunteer children aged between 6 and 11 years (139 female and 141 male) were selected. The test was named Sustained Auditory Attention Ability Test, and is based on the Continuous Performance Test.

[Macrosomia and auditory abilities: a comparative study].

Background: Macrosomia is the positive deviation of normal growing standards.

Aim: Due to the lack of studies related to the auditory abilities in macrosomic syndromes, the aim of the present study was to verify and compare the auditory abilities of two patients and to correlate these results with other complementary findings.

Method: Anamneses, hearing, language, psychologic and neuroimage evaluation in two female subjects, eight and seventeen years old.

[Ear canal narrowing: a case report].

Background: ear canal narrowing is the thinning or closing of the ear canal. This can damage the sound transmition from the external to the internal ear, which in turn may cause a false hearing loss.
