Aims And Objectives: The purpose of this research was to describe how older adult internet users from senior centres in Korea accessed and used health information on the internet and the perceived barriers that prevented internet use.

Background: Increasingly, patients are using health-related information available on the internet. Internet based health information has influenced patient knowledge and expectations regarding healthcare.

Nursing informatics competencies required of nurses in Taiwan.

Purpose: In today's workplace, nurses are highly skilled professionals possessing expertise in both information technology and nursing. Nursing informatics competencies are recognized as an important capability of nurses. No established guidelines existed for nurses in Asia.

Technology solutions can make nursing care safer and more efficient.

The shortage of registered nurses in hospitals threatens to cripple healthcare delivery in the next three to five years. The demand for nursing care has increased while the willingness of nurses to stay at the bedside in acute-care settings has decreased. Phase I implementation of an academic medical record for integrating information management competencies into a nursing curriculum.

This paper is the report of the first phase of a case study from the University of Utah to help students and faculty integrate electronic information management into the nursing curriculum. Cerner AES, a live-production clinical information system with an academic overlay, has been implemented into the first semester of an undergraduate nursing program. A consortium of schools that use Cerner AES collaborate in the design and implementation of forms used by students.

A model of interprofessional informatics education.

An emphasis on patient safety and an administrative mandate to have information systems in place in most health care agencies in the USA by 2014 has put pressure on nursing informatics programs to increase the number of graduates. At the same time a need for change in health professions education was emphasized at an educational summit sponsored by the Institute of Medicine. Interprofessional education (IPE) will help to provide needed educational reform in informatics and is defined as planned occasions when two or more professions learn from each other and about each other in a structured manner.

A Delphi study to determine informatics competencies for nurses at four levels of practice.

Background: Despite its obvious need, a current, research-based list of informatics competencies for nurses is not available.

Objective: To produce a research-based master list of informatics competencies for nurses and differentiate these competencies by level of nursing practice.

Methods: After a comprehensive literature review and item consolidation, an expert panel defined initial competencies.
