Objective: To assess the impact of delayed invitation on screen-detected and interval colorectal cancers (CRC) within a faecal immunochemical testing (FIT)-based CRC screening programme.

Design: All individuals that participated in 2017 and 2018 with a negative FIT and were eligible for CRC screening in 2019 and 2020 were included using individual-level data. Multivariable logistic regression analyses were used to assess the association between either the different time periods (ie, '', '' and '' the first COVID-19 wave) or the invitation interval on screen-detected and interval CRCs.

Background: The use of multidetector computed tomography (CT) in lung-cancer screening trials involving subjects with an increased risk of lung cancer has highlighted the problem for the clinician of deciding on the best course of action when noncalcified pulmonary nodules are detected by CT.

Methods: A total of 7557 participants underwent CT screening in years 1, 2, and 4 of a randomized trial of lung-cancer screening. We used software to evaluate a noncalcified nodule according to its volume or volume-doubling time.

Purpose of this study was to determine the rate of contamination, defined as lung cancer screening in the control arm, of the Dutch-Belgian randomized lung cancer screening trial (NELSON) as contamination adversely affects the power of a trial. The NELSON cohort includes 15,822 high-risk current and former smokers, aged 50-75 years, equally randomized to the screen and control arm. Questionnaires were sent to a sample of 1460 male subjects of the control arm, stratified on smoking determinants.

In some European countries, female lung cancer mortality and incidence have started to decrease or flatten out, whereas they are still rising in The Netherlands. We present recent mortality and incidence trends of lung cancer and smoking trends in The Netherlands to show the end of the lung cancer epidemic in Dutch women. Lung cancer mortality and incidence rates by gender were analyzed for 4 age groups (20-44, 45-49, 50-54 and 55-59), and smoking prevalence rates were examined for women using joinpoint regression and birth cohort analysis.

Background: Computed tomography (CT) screening is an important new tool for the early detection of lung cancer. In the current study, the authors assessed the discomfort associated with CT scanning and the subsequent wait for results and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) over time.

Methods: A total of 351 participants in the Dutch-Belgian randomized controlled trial for lung cancer screening in high-risk subjects (the NELSON trial) who had an appointment for a baseline CT scan were asked to complete questionnaires regarding their experienced discomfort and HRQoL before, 1 day after, and approximately 6 months after the CT scan.

A method to obtain the optimal selection criteria, taking into account available resources and capacity and the impact on power, is presented for the Dutch-Belgian randomised lung cancer screening trial (NELSON). NELSON investigates whether 16-detector multi-slice computed tomography screening will decrease lung cancer mortality compared to no screening. Patients had experienced pregnancy-induced hypertension (n = 37), preeclampsia (n = 144), hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, low platelets (HELLP) syndrome (n = 104), recurrent early pregnancy loss (n = 544), abruptio placentae (n = 135), intrauterine growth restriction (n = 144), or intrauterine fetal death (n = 104).
