Global Meditation Practices: A Literature Review.

Research has shown that meditation is beneficial for chronic pain, stress, and many physical and mental conditions. The definition of meditation has many forms, is culturally influenced, and is practiced globally. This literature review seeks to report current literature on meditation related to therapeutic outcomes and create a globally informed definition of meditation for health-related purposes.

A Systematic Review of Nursing Practice Workarounds.

Background: Nursing practice workarounds (NPWs) are a significant problem for health care organizations. Identified NPWs serve as a catalyst for innovation to improve efficiency, patient safety, and system design. To date, a systematic review of NPW literature has not been performed.

Nursing faculty bullying: Concept analysis.

Objective: The purpose of this review was to clarify the concept of nursing faculty bullying. Unlike published reviews that highlight incivility that involve students and faculty, the authors sought to develop the concept of nursing faculty bullying occurring in nursing schools.

Design: The systematic eight step approach to a concept analysis developed by Walker and Avant was the framework to explore nursing faculty bullying.

Perceptions of Midwest rural women related to their physical activity and eating behaviors.

The study aim was to describe the perceptions of 65 Midwestern rural women related to healthy eating, physical activity, and weight management. A semistructured interview guide was used to elicit data. Theory of planned behavior constructs were used to categorize the data into 4 predominant themes related to healthy lifestyle behaviors, (a) knowledge and attitudes, (b) rural cultural influences, (c) facilitators, and (d) barriers.

Students' perceptions of group projects.

Group projects are frequently used to facilitate students' learning. Little research has been performed that explores the student perception of this teaching method. The authors discuss a study that explored students' perceptions of group projects that may be used when developing or revising required nursing courses.

When a family member has a malignant brain tumor: the caregiver perspective.

The incidence of primary malignant brain tumors has remained stable over the past 10 years, with median survival reported as 12 months. Once the patient has been diagnosed, providing care for him or her is primarily performed by family members. Although previous research has documented the stress, depression, anxiety, and burden associated with caregiving, when these conditions occur is not known.

Issues related to participation in a clinical trial.

While not everyone can or should participate in a clinical trial, these treatment plans should be discussed with appropriate patients and their family members. A clinical trial is a precise, exact written protocol that allows patients in multiple health care settings to have access to these newer modalities.
