Objective: Many hyperthyroid cats (15% to 50%) have concurrent chronic kidney disease (CKD) that is "masked" and will not become azotemic until after treatment. Previous studies reported that mild-to-moderate azotemic CKD after methimazole or thyroidectomy does not adversely affect survival. Our objective was to determine whether hyperthyroid cats with masked CKD rendered euthyroid with radioiodine (131I) have shorter survival than 131I-treated euthyroid cats that remain nonazotemic.

Article Synopsis
  • A weakly supervised AI model called Triagnexia Colorectal was created to detect abnormal colorectal histology, like dysplasia and cancer, and prioritize biopsies based on clinical importance.
  • The model was trained on nearly 25,000 digitized images and evaluated by multiple pathologists, offering a user-friendly interface to enhance decision-making in digital pathology.
  • Validation results show high accuracy for the AI model, with impressive specificity and sensitivity scores, which pathologists found beneficial for detecting and prioritizing abnormal colorectal cases.

Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) refers to a metabolic condition where a lack of insulin impairs the usual homeostatic mechanisms to control blood glucose levels. Historically, participation in competitive sport has posed a challenge for those with T1DM, where the dynamic changes in blood glucose during exercise can result in dangerously high (hyperglycaemia) or low blood glucoses (hypoglycaemia) levels. Over the last decade, research and technological development has enhanced the methods of monitoring and managing blood glucose levels, thus reducing the chances of experiencing hyper- or hypoglycaemia during exercise.

Issue Addressed: The ASQ-TRAK, a strengths-based approach to developmental screening, has high acceptability and utility across varied Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander contexts. While substantive knowledge translation has seen many services utilise ASQ-TRAK, we now need to move beyond distribution and support evidence-based scale-up to ensure access. Through a co-design approach, we aimed to (1) understand community partners' perspectives of barriers and enablers to ASQ-TRAK implementation and (2) develop an ASQ-TRAK implementation support model to inform scale-up.

An exploited vulnerability in a single software component of healthcare technology can affect patient care. The risk of including third-party software components in healthcare technologies can be managed, in part, by leveraging a software bill of materials (SBOM). Analogous to an ingredients list on food packaging, an SBOM is a list of all included software components.

Training load monitoring is a core aspect of modern-day sport science practice. Collecting, cleaning, analysing, interpreting, and disseminating load data is usually undertaken with a view to improve player performance and/or manage injury risk. To target these outcomes, practitioners attempt to optimise load at different stages throughout the training process, like adjusting individual sessions, planning day-to-day, periodising the season, and managing athletes with a long-term view.
