In this work, an analytical procedure for the preliminary design of shape memory alloy spring-based actuators is investigated. Two static analytical models are considered and interconnected in the frame of the proposed procedure. The first model, based on the works from An, is able to determine the material properties of the SMA components by means of experimental test data and is able to size the SMA component based on the requirements of the system.

Current literature failed to solve the controversies between intracorporeal and extracorporeal anastomosis after laparoscopic right colectomy.
Methods: A multicenter case-controlled study has been designed, including 286 patients who underwent laparoscopic right hemicolectomy with intracorporeal anastomosis (IA) compared with 226 matched patients who underwent laparoscopic right hemicolectomy with extracorporeal anastomosis (EA).
Background: Laparoscopic surgery has been used in the treatment of early gastric cancer with low mortality and morbidity and improvement in patient's quality of life. The purpose of the current study was to determine if these advantages persist after radical laparoscopic treatment of more advanced gastric cancer.
Methods: A retrospective review of 44 patients after laparoscopic surgery for gastric cancer was performed.
