Delineating the neural substrates of autobiographical memory impairment in Huntington's disease.

Emerging evidence suggests that autobiographical memory (ABM) is altered in Huntington's disease (HD). While these impairments are typically attributed to frontostriatal dysfunction, the neural substrates of ABM impairment in HD remain unexplored. To this end, we assessed ABM in 30 participants with genetically confirmed HD (18 premanifest, 12 manifest) and 24 age-matched healthy controls.

Continuum of health equity practice and science: conceptualising health equity research and practice for injury prevention.

Background: Integrating and advancing health equity are a core tenant of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's mission. Comprehensive frameworks that clearly conceptualise equity are needed to prioritise and inform the advancement of health equity within public health.

Methods: To help meet this need, the investigative team developed The Continuum of Health Equity Practice & Science (The Continuum).

Results of shared learning of a new radiofrequency identification localization device-a UK iBRA-NET breast cancer localisation study.

Introduction: Localisation methods for surgical excision of impalpable breast lesions have advanced in recent years, with increasing utilization of new wire-free technologies. The Hologic LOCalizer™ radiofrequency identification (RFID) tag is one such device; however, as is the case when new technologies are first introduced, little is known about clinical experiences, potential complications, and learning used to overcome perioperative challenges when changing from guidewires to RFID tags. This study reports shared learning experiences of clinicians using the LOCalizer™ as part of the national iBRA-NET localisation study.

Repeat percutaneous rhizotomy for trigeminal neuralgia is not associated with an increased risk of postoperative complications.

Background And Objectives: Patients undergoing percutaneous rhizotomy for trigeminal neuralgia (TN) may require several procedures to manage their pain. However, it is not fully understood whether repeat procedures influence postoperative complication rates.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed patients undergoing rhizotomy at our institution from 2011 to 2022.

COVID-19 Infection and ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction: Lessons in Disease Management During a Pandemic.

The emergence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, causing the COVID-19 pandemic, has profoundly impacted global health, resulting in significant morbidity and mortality worldwide. This paper presents a case study highlighting the heightened risk of severe cardiovascular complications following COVID-19 infection. A 61-year-old male with hyperlipidemia was discharged after COVID-19 pneumonia treatment and experienced a severe ST-elevated myocardial infarction (STEMI) within a day of discharge.

Morphoea presenting histopathologically as mycosis fungoides: an illustrative series of four cases.

Aims: There have been exceptional reports of morphoea presenting with epidermal changes overlapping histopathologically with cutaneous T cell lymphoma of the mycosis fungoides type (MF). This phenomenon gives rise to an ambiguous clinicopathological scenario in which distinguishing these conditions may be challenging. The aim of this study is to characterise the clinical, histopathological and molecular findings of this phenomenon through a case series.

The rhizodynamics robot: Automated imaging system for studying long-term dynamic root growth.

The study of plant root growth in real time has been difficult to achieve in an automated, high-throughput, and systematic fashion. Dynamic imaging of plant roots is important in order to discover novel root growth behaviors and to deepen our understanding of how roots interact with their environments. We designed and implemented the Generating Rhizodynamic Observations Over Time (GROOT) robot, an automated, high-throughput imaging system that enables time-lapse imaging of 90 containers of plants and their roots growing in a clear gel medium over the duration of weeks to months.

Analysis of social determinants of health and individual factors found in health equity frameworks: Applications to injury research.

Introduction: This research evaluated existing health equity frameworks as they relate to social determinants of health (SDOHs) and individual factors that may impact injury outcomes and identify gaps in coverage using the Healthy People (HP) 2030 key domains.

Methods: The study used a list of health equity frameworks sourced from previous literature. SDOHs and individual factors from each framework were identified and categorized into the Healthy People 2030 domains.

Barriers to and Facilitators of Family Caregiving of Patients With COVID-19 Early in the Pandemic.

Background: In 2020, many family members were thrust into the role of caregiving for a relative with COVID-19 with little preparation, training, or understanding of the disease and its symptoms.

Objectives: To explore the barriers to and facilitators of caregiving experienced by family caregivers of patients with COVID-19 who had been in intensive care in the pandemic's earliest months.

Methods: In-depth qualitative interviews were conducted by web conference with 16 adults recovering at home after intubation for COVID-19 in an intensive care unit at a major academic medical center and their primary caregivers from March to August 2020 (N = 32).

Teaching Professionalism during and Posta Pandemic to Surgical Trainees: A Survey of the Impact of a Workshop on Trainers and Trainees.

Introduction: Focussed professionalism training improves surgical trainees' communication, information gathering, and counselling skills. This study reviews the impact of a professionalism workshop for surgical trainees within a large trust in the United Kingdom developed during the pandemic to support the trainees and help them develop resilience and appropriate behaviours during the time of increased pressure.

Methods: A workshop involving case-based discussions and reflections on professionalism was developed from the themes and methods of training noted to be effective on a literature search of Medline, EMBASE, and PsycINFO databases carried out in May 2020.

A scoping review of research on potential impact of implicit bias in healthcare settings for children with acquired brain injuries.

Purpose/objective: Acquired brain injury (ABI) is a leading cause of disability in children and adolescents. Implicit biases within pediatric ABI healthcare settings may exert negative effects on clinical interactions and medical decision-making processes. This study aimed to conduct a scoping review of current research that examines the potential impact of implicit biases in such healthcare settings for children with ABI.

'PartBreCon' study. A UK multicentre retrospective cohort study to assess outcomes following PARTial BREast reCONstruction with chest wall perforator flaps.

Background: Partial breast reconstruction with a pedicled chest wall perforator flap (CWPF) enables breast conservation in a higher tumour: breast volume ratio scenario. Since there is limited evidence, this retrospective cohort study aimed to ascertain immediate (30-days) and medium-term (follow-up duration) surgical outcomes.

Methods: STROBE-compliant protocol ascertained CWPF outcomes between March 2011-March 2021.

Barton . raise several statistical concerns regarding our original analyses that highlight the challenge of inferring natural selection using ancient genomic data. We show here that these concerns have limited impact on our original conclusions.

School nurses have faced many professional challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. Focus group interviews were employed as a data collection method in this qualitative study to describe the perspectives of school nurses during the pandemic. Themes relevant to school nurse experiences and suggestions for change were identified.

The historical epidemiology of plague is controversial due to the scarcity and ambiguity of available data. Clinical Low-Dose Photon-Counting CT for the Detection of Urolithiasis: Radiation Dose Reduction Is Possible without Compromising Image Quality.

This study evaluated the feasibility of reducing the radiation dose in abdominal imaging of urolithiasis with a clinical photon-counting CT (PCCT) by gradually lowering the image quality level (IQL) without compromising the image quality and diagnostic value. Ninety-eight PCCT examinations using either IQL70 (n = 31), IQL60 (n = 31) or IQL50 (n = 36) were retrospectively included. Parameters for the radiation dose and the quantitative image quality were analyzed.

At a time when anti-LGBTQ+ legislation is on the rise in more than a dozen states across the United States, social work providers and researchers must be acutely aware of the ways in which their practice may unintentionally invalidate the identities of LGBTQ+ youth. Concurrently, language used in the LGBTQ+ youth community to describe both sexual identity and gender has moved away from monosexual and binary labels toward nonmonosexual and nonbinary descriptions. The adoption of such language, in practice and in research, is a simple step toward combatting invalidation in the social work field.

Plague has an enigmatic history as a zoonotic pathogen. This infectious disease will unexpectedly appear in human populations and disappear just as suddenly. As a result, a long-standing line of inquiry has been to estimate when and where plague appeared in the past.

Observational studies on the efficacy of carbamazepine and ascorbyl palmitate in managing trigeminal neuralgia.

Objective: Ascorbyl palmitate is a fat-soluble ester of vitamin C and is used as an antioxidant food additive. While literature reports that ascorbyl palmitate can prevent exacerbation of pain and improve the quality of life of patients suffering from pain, this is not yet supported by clinical trial data. Our study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of ascorbyl palmitate in managing trigeminal neuralgia.

Caregiving in the COVID-19 pandemic: Family adaptations following an intensive care unit hospitalisation.

Aim And Objective: To identify how family caregivers adapt to the caregiving role following a relative's COVID-19-related intensive care unit (ICU) hospitalisation.

Background: Family caregiving is often associated with poor health amongst caregivers which may limit their capacity to effectively support patients. Though severe COVID-19 infection has necessitated increasing numbers of persons who require caregiver support, little is known about these caregivers, the persons they are caring for, or the strategies used to effectively adjust to the caregiving role.
