Background And Objective: Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) in the treatment of severe obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) can be used in fixed CPAP or auto-adjusted (APAP) mode. The aim of this prospective randomized controlled clinical study was to evaluate the 3 month-efficacy of CPAP used either in fixed CPAP or APAP mode.

Methods: Eight hundred one patients with severe OSA were included in twenty-two French centres.

Article Synopsis
  • A study in France, called the SISCOVID study, looked at lung health in patients who recovered from COVID-19 three and six months after being discharged from the hospital.
  • Of the 320 patients assessed, many faced ongoing breathing issues and lung function problems, with those who had severe COVID-19 experiencing more significant complications.
  • The findings indicate that over half of the patients had persistent dyspnoea and lung impairment at six months, highlighting the importance of ongoing monitoring and research into the long-term effects of COVID-19 on lung health.

Article Synopsis
  • Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is linked to increased cardiovascular risks, yet there's a lack of effective screening for it in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS).
  • A study evaluated 53 ACS patients for OSA using polysomnography two months post-heart attack, finding that 73.6% had moderate to severe OSA.
  • Those with a high apneic coefficient (≥37%) showed worse heart health, indicated by elevated Troponin-I, NT-proBNP levels, more complex coronary artery disease (SYNTAX score), and lower ejection fraction.

Background: Determination of the therapeutic pressure during continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy is usually performed by a technician during polysomnography. In recent years, several devices for automated adjustment of the therapeutic pressure by the means of computerized algorithms were developed. The aims of the present study were to compare two different devices for automated titration and to verify if unattended automated titration is a feasible strategy to determine the therapeutic CPAP.
