Revalorization of mushroom by-product (stalks of A. bisporus) by extracting its components is proposed. The extraction kinetics at 25 °C of ergosterol, phenolic compounds and antioxidant activity by mechanical agitation (at 130 rpm) and ultrasound assistance (at 182 and 321 W/L) in 70 and 96% v/v ethanol/water solutions during 30 min were evaluated and satisfactorily modelled, using the Weibull model (mean relative error ≤ 7.

Article Synopsis
  • Radiation therapy and radical pelvic surgery are standard treatments for advanced bladder and gynecological cancers but can cause complications in about 50% of patients due to high radiation doses.
  • A case report focuses on a 64-year-old woman with a relapse of vaginal cuff squamous cell carcinoma, who underwent a complex surgical procedure including a neobladder reconstruction using the Indiana pouch technique.
  • The Indiana pouch is highlighted as an effective and reproducible method for urinary diversion with fewer complications, though long-term follow-up is necessary to assess outcomes.

Objectives: To evaluate the result of retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) assisted by flexible ureterorenoscopy (FURS) and Holmium laser in the treatment of lithiasis within calyceal diverticula as a minimally invasive therapeutic option.

Methods: We retrospectively evaluated 11 cases of symptomatic lithiasis within calyceal diverticula treated between January 2010 and December 2011. We defined treatment success as absence of residual stones and absence/disappearance of symptomatology over the course of follow-up.
