Fungal sepsis is an important cause of fever resistant to antibiotic therapy that is very often taken into marginal account. It should instead be particularly considered in patients with a long history of immune depression such as diabetes or chronic and debilitating diseases. Blood cultures are essential for diagnostic purposes, preferably performed in antibiotic wash-out, since they may allow identification of pathogenic (or opportunistic) fungi responsible for episodes of fungal sepsis.
