ERG and OCT findings of a patient with a clinical diagnosis of occult macular dystrophy in a patient of Ashkenazi Jewish descent associated with a novel mutation in the gene encoding RP1L1.

A 57-year-old man with a past medical history of diabetes presented for consultation with a several year history of slowly progressive vision loss in both eyes, which continued to deteriorate over 7 years of follow-up. Multimodal imaging was performed and was significant for the following: on spectral domain optical coherence tomography, a gap lesion was present in the ellipsoid layer, beneath the umbo, as well as subtle macular changes on auto fluorescence imaging. Multifocal electroretinography was performed and was abnormal, and a clinical diagnosis of occult macular dystrophy was made.

INTRAVITREAL BEVACIZUMAB IN THE MANAGEMENT OF BREAST CANCER IRIS METASTASIS.

Purpose: To report a case of neovascular and angle closure glaucoma secondary to breast cancer metastatic to the iris that was successfully treated with injections of intravitreal bevacizumab (Avastin) 1.25 mg/0.05 mL.

Ocular Toxoplasmosis: Controversies in Primary and Secondary Prevention.

Ocular toxoplasmosis is the most common cause of posterior uveitis in the United States and worldwide. It commonly follows a relapsing course with the potential for multiple adverse visual sequelae and, rarely, blindness. Both immune-competent and immune-suppressed populations can develop severe relapsing disease.

Topiramate-induced refractive change and angle closure glaucoma and its ultrasound bimicroscopy findings.

Topiramate, a sulpha-based medication used in the treatment of migraine, has been documented as causing choroidal effusions, transient myopia and acute secondary angle closure glaucoma. We would like to report a case demonstrating these adverse effects and underscore the utility of ultrasound biomicroscopy in diagnosis and management.

Aerosol container-related eye injuries in the United States: 1997-2009.

Purpose: To quantify and characterize eye injuries related to aerosol container consumer products treated in United States hospital emergency departments (EDs) from 1997 through 2009.

Design: Retrospective study.

Methods: Descriptive analysis of aerosol container-related eye injury data derived from the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System, a stratified probability sample of hospital-affiliated United States EDs.

Endogenous fungal endophthalmitis after cardiac surgery.

The authors present a single-patient interventional case report of endogenous fungal endophthalmitis (EFE) in a patient with an implanted prosthetic device. A 74-year-old man underwent a double coronary artery bypass graft with a bioprosthetic pericardial valve and transvenous dual chamber pacemaker. Four months later, he presented with EFE.
