Repair of complex ventral hernias frequently results in postoperative complications. This study assessed postoperative outcomes in a consecutive cohort of patients with ventral hernias who underwent herniorrhaphy using components separation techniques and reinforcement with non-cross-linked intact porcine-derived acellular dermal matrix (PADM) performed by a single surgeon between 2008 and 2012. Postoperative outcomes of interest included incidence of seroma, wound infection, deep-vein thrombosis, bleeding, and hernia recurrence determined via clinical examination.

Synopsis of recent research by authors named "Carly C Russo"

  • Carly C Russo's research primarily focuses on surgical outcomes related to hernia repair, particularly using innovative materials such as porcine-derived acellular dermal matrix (PADM).
  • The study evaluates the postoperative complications following complex ventral hernia repairs, highlighting issues such as seroma formation, wound infection, and hernia recurrence.
  • Findings from this research suggest that while PADM can be effective, there is a notable incidence of complications associated with its use, emphasizing the need for careful patient management following such surgical procedures.
