Normothermic regional perfusion (NRP) in controlled donation after the circulatory determination of death (cDCD) is a growing preservation technique for abdominal organs that coexists with the rapid recovery of lungs. We aimed to describe the outcomes of lung transplantation (LuTx) and liver transplantation (LiTx) when both grafts are simultaneously recovered from cDCD donors using NRP and compare them with grafts recovered from donation after brain death (DBD) donors. Lassa virus (LASV) cell entry is mediated by the interaction of the virus glycoprotein complex (GPC) with alpha-dystroglycan at the cell surface followed by binding to LAMP1 in late endosomes. However, LAMP1 is not absolutely required for LASV fusion, as this virus can infect LAMP1-deficient cells. Here, we used LASV GPC pseudoviruses, LASV virus-like particles and recombinant lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus expressing LASV GPC to investigate the role of human LAMP1 (hLAMP1) in LASV fusion with human and avian cells expressing a LAMP1 ortholog that does not support LASV entry.

Understanding the SARS-CoV-2 virus' pathways of infection, virus-host-protein interactions, and mechanisms of virus-induced cytopathic effects will greatly aid in the discovery and design of new therapeutics to treat COVID-19. Chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine, extensively explored as clinical agents for COVID-19, have multiple cellular effects including alkalizing lysosomes and blocking autophagy as well as exhibiting dose-limiting toxicities in patients. We report a 12-day-old male who was admitted with vomiting because of an unusual early complication of Marfan's syndrome (MS): a sliding hiatal hernia. Initial ultrasound showed no stomach at its normal position and the chest X-ray presented an intrathoracic gas bubble with the nasogastric tube inside. An upper gastrointestinal contrast study confirmed the complete herniation of the stomach into the thorax.
