Unveiling the unknown diversity of planktonic green algae (Chlorophyta) in urban ponds in the semiarid region of Northeastern Brazil.

This study examined the taxonomic composition and ecological aspects of planktonic green algae (Chlorophyta) in four urban ponds (Parque da Lagoa, Lagoa Grande, Laguneville, and Pindoba) in Feira de Santana, Bahia State, Brazil. We analyzed 96 samples collected bimonthly in 2022 and identified 54 taxa, with the majority (42) classified as uncommon or sporadic. The most common species were Monoraphidium circinale and Lemmermannia komarekii, found in 100% and 95.

Diversity and distribution of the genus Tetmemorus (Desmidiaceae, Zygnematophyceae) in Brazil.

In the present study, a taxonomic review was conducted on representatives of the genus Tetmemorus (Desmidiaceae, Zygnematophyceae) documented within Brazilian territory. This review involved compiling data from the literature and analyzing samples collected throughout the Bahia State, updating our knowledge about this genus in Brazil. For each identified taxon, we provided information such as description, distribution across biomes and states, watersheds, ecological aspects (including habitat and community types), a list of examined (and excluded) materials, and taxonomic comments.

Baseline trace elements in the seagrass Halodule wrightii Aschers (Cymodoceaceae) from Todos os Santos Bay, Bahia, Brazil.

Trace elements concentrations (As, Ba, Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb, V and Zn) were found in samples of Halodule wrightii Aschers (Cymodoceaceae) seagrass from Todos os Santos Bay, Bahia, Brazil by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). This bay has been impacted by the presence of industrial activity that includes chemical and petrochemical plants as well as an oil refinery and harbor activities located in the north and northeastern area. Samples were collected at 4 stations to evaluate the distribution of element concentrations in this area and under different climatic conditions.

Levels and spatial distribution of trace elements in macroalgae species from the Todos os Santos Bay, Bahia, Brazil.

Concentrations of elements (As, Ba, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Li, Mn, Ni, Pb, V, and Zn) were determined in ten species of macroalgae collected from six sites in the Todos os Santos Bay, Brazil, between May and July of 2010. An optimized microwave-assisted digestion procedure was used to digest the samples. The elements were determined by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS).
