People with proximal transhumeral amputation usually choose prosthesis as an alternative to improve occupational performance, but frequently presenting difficulties in the distal control, poor elevation to reach some object, and tolerance to use in ADL and day time, added to frustration and high perception of disability. This report described the results in the first experience with one patient who suffered a work accident in Chile in a long-term following up 7 years after discharge, who take the choice for osteointegrated prosthesis training for amputation at the proximal transhumeral level and hybrid system (electrical elbow and body-power hook), the patient has previous experience with conventional body-power prosthesis and caps. For this, a standard rehabilitation protocol was applied, modifying it in relation to the Chilean experience in classical prosthetic training.

The electrochemical reduction of highly oxidized unsupported graphene oxide nanosheets and its platinum electrodeposition was done by the rotating disk slurry electrode technique. Avoiding the use of a solid electrode, graphene oxide was electrochemically reduced in a slurry solution with a scalable process without the use of a reducing agent. Graphene oxide nanosheets were synthesized from carbon platelet nanofibers to obtain highly hydrophilic layers of less than 250 nm in width.

Toxicity of cadmium, copper and zinc was tested on four green algal species (Ankistrodesmus fusiformis, Chlorella ellipsoidea, Monoraphidium contortum and Scenedesmus acuminatus) isolated from a highly polluted river (Matanza-Riachuelo River, Buenos Aires, Argentina). This article presents the case of a young woman with massive hemoptysis (1,000 mL in 6 hours) due to tuberculosis, which could not be controlled by insertion of a Fogarty catheter through a fiber-optic bronchoscope. Because of asphyxia and persistent bleeding risk we instilled fibrinogen-thrombin through a fiber-optic bronchoscope inserted catheter, achieving bleeding cessation and permitting the placing of a double-lumen oro-tracheal tube. Later on, the patient underwent lobectomy and anti-tuberculosis treatment.

Statistical screening experimental designs were applied to identify the significant culture variables for biomass production of Aurantiochytrium limacinum SR21 and their optimal levels were found using a combination of Artificial Neural Networks, genetic algorithms and graphical analysis. The Rhizophydiales is the most recently circumscribed order in the Chytridiomycota. Past studies focused on soil chytrids from North America and Australia to determine the range of diversity within this clade of chytrids and established three families (Rhizophydiaceae, Terramycetaceae, and Kappamycetaceae) in the new order. Although Rhizophydiales contains seemingly simple chytrids morphologically, analyses of ribosomal gene sequences and zoospore characters have demonstrated unexpected genetic and ultrastructural diversity, highlighting the need for broader habitat and geographic sampling to reveal the actual diversity within this new order.
