Objectives: To evaluate isotretinoin effect on alveolar repair after tooth extraction of maxillary incisor and serum calcium levels in rats.
Study Design: Wistar rats (60-day-old) were assigned to control (CG, n = 12) and experimental (EG, n = 20) groups. EG received daily isotretinoin (7.
Smoking habits did not influence either the risk of any form of endometriosis (superficial peritoneal endometriosis, ovarian endometriomas, and deep infiltrating endometriosis) and did not correlate with the revised American Fertility Society stages or scores.

A total of 181 issues of a regional newspaper were consulted. Based on content analysis, 164 items addressing violence against women were selected and 46 were included in the corpus of analysis.

Objective: To determine the frequency of LV diastolic dysfunction by mitral Doppler in healthy elderly individuals and identify clinical and echocardiographic characteristics associated to this finding.
Methods: Seventy-three apparently healthy individuals (64% women, aged 60 to 80) were carefully selected and submitted to clinical, laboratory and Doppler-echocardiographic assessment, with particular regard to the characteristics of the mitral flow.
The Brazilian Amazon is globally important for biodiversity, climate, and geochemical cycles, but is also among the least developed regions in Brazil. Economic development is often pursued through forest conversion for cattle ranching and agriculture, mediated by logging. However, on the basis of an assessment of 286 municipalities in different stages of deforestation, we found a boom-and-bust pattern in levels of human development across the deforestation frontier.

Design: Observational, cross-sectional study.
Methods: Seventy-seven glaucoma patients (154 eyes) underwent OCT (Stratus) imaging with the fast RNFL thickness protocol in both eyes.
Eleven cases of pyometra were diagnosed in a captive exotic felid collection over 3 yr in seven African lions (Panthera leo), two tigers (P. tigris), one liger (lion-tiger crossbreed), and one leopard (P. pardus).

However, it is unclear if treating dyslipidemia in elderly patients improves endothelial function and reduces C-reactive protein levels.
Objectives: To evaluate vasomotor function, lipids and C-reactive protein in mildly hypertensive and hypercholesterolemic elderly patients treated with atorvastatin.
This paper discusses the use of matching-to-sample as a procedure to investigate symbolic behavior acquisition when studying the evolution of language. It is argued that generalized identity and stimulus classes formed after learning arbitrary interconnected conditional stimulus relationships may be the result of basic pre-symbolic processes. Such aspects may thus provide relevant information for interdisciplinary research on symbolic behavior and language evolution.

Plasma biochemical abnormalities included marked hyperglobulinemia and hypercalcemia. Serum levels of parathyroid hormone, parathyroid hormone-related protein, 25-hydroxyvitamin D, and 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D were either low or within reference intervals.

Some coupled land-climate models predict a dieback of Amazon forest during the twenty-first century due to climate change, but human land use in the region has already reduced the forest cover. The causation behind land use is complex, and includes economic, institutional, political and demographic factors. Pre-eminent among these factors is road building, which facilitates human access to natural resources that beget forest fragmentation.

These BSP and OPN are believed to bind to sperm at ejaculation and to remain bound until sperm reach the oviduct. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the topographical distribution of BSP A1/A2, 30 kDa and OPN binding on: (1) bovine ejaculated sperm; (2) ejaculated sperm incubated with isthmic oviductal fluid (ODF); (3) ejaculated sperm+isthmic ODF incubated in ampullary ODF.

Design: Retrospective cohort study.
Methods: Retrospective medical records from 64 patients (78 eyes) with refractory glaucoma who underwent AGV implantation with a minimum of three years of follow-up were reviewed.
Background: Rhabdomyolysis (RML) and subsequent acute renal failure can be serious problems following bariatric operations. Early diagnosis and treatment are important to avoid the complications of RML.
Methods: This review was achieved by searching the key words: Rhabdomyolysis, diagnosis, treatment and bariatric surgery.

Ecological studies in tropical forests have long been plagued by difficulties associated with sampling the crowns of large canopy trees and large inaccessible regions, such as the Amazon basin. Recent advances in remote sensing have overcome some of these obstacles, enabling progress towards tackling difficult ecological problems. Breakthroughs have helped transform the dialog between ecology and remote sensing, generating new regional perspectives on key environmental gradients and species assemblages with ecologically relevant measures such as canopy nutrient and moisture content, crown area, leaf-level drought responses, woody tissue and surface litter abundance, phenological patterns, and land-cover transitions.
