Iatrogenic Amyloid Polyneuropathy Following Domino Liver Transplantation: A Case Report.

Familial amyloidotic polyneuropathy (FAP) is an autosomal dominant hereditary disorder. In Portugal, it is mainly linked to transthyretin (TTR) mutation, and patients present with length-dependent sensory-motor polyneuropathy, often accompanied by autonomic dysfunction. Treatment options for FAP include liver transplant, and due to the lack of organs, FAP livers began being implanted in patients with severe liver disease in a process known as domino liver transplantation (DLT).

Total hip replacement with an uncemented Wagner cone stem for patients with congenital hip dysplasia.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to review retrospectively the cases operated upon in our department in recent years with a Wagner stem and a small socket in cases of Crowe I or II dysplastic hips.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective clinical radiological review of 30 hips diagnosed with hip dysplasia Crowe I or II treated in our centre between 2002 and 2008. All of them were treated with a Wagner cone stem and a small Trilogy acetabulum (Zimmer ®).

Background And Objective: Preoperative anemia is a major risk factor for perioperative transfusion in orthopedic surgery and aging is associated with an increased risk for developing anemia. The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy and safety of preoperative epoetin alfa in patients older and younger than 65 years in orthopedic surgery.
