Purpose: Breast Cancer (BC) is the main female cancer diagnosed worldwide, and it has been described that few genes, such as , have a high penetrance for this type of cancer. In this manuscript, we were interested in evaluating the effect of 3'UTR variants on BRCA1 expression.

Patients And Methods: To accomplish this objective, Whole Exome Sequencing (WES) data of 400 patients with unselected BC was used to filter variants located in the region of interest of gene, finding two of them (c.

RT-PCR tests have become the gold standard for detecting the SARS-CoV-2 virus in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Because of the extreme number of cases in periodic waves of infection, there is a severe financial and logistical strain on diagnostic laboratories. For this reason, alternative implementations and validations of academic protocols that employ the lowest cost and the most widely available equipment and reagents found in different regions are essential.

In genes related to drug pharmacokinetics, molecular variations determine interindividual variability in the therapeutic efficacy and adverse drug reactions. The assessment of single-nucleotide variants (SNVs) is used with growing frequency in pharmacogenetic practice, and recently, high-throughput genomic analyses obtained through next-generation sequencing (NGS) have been recognized as powerful tools to identify common, rare and novel variants. These genetic profiles remain underexplored in Latin-American populations, including Colombia.

Long QT syndromes can be either acquired or congenital. Drugs are one of the many etiologies that may induce acquired long QT syndrome. In fact, many drugs frequently used in the clinical setting are a known risk factor for a prolonged QT interval, thus increasing the chances of developing torsade de pointes.

Noonan syndrome with multiple lentigines (NSML), previously known as LEOPARD syndrome, is a rare autosomal dominant disorder with an unknown prevalence. Characteristics of this disease include cutaneous, neurologic, and cardiologic abnormalities. In this case report, we present a 12-year-old girl who was admitted to the emergency department for acute-onset left weakness, unsteady gait, nausea, and vomiting.

The gene encodes elastin, a fundamental protein of the extracellular matrix that confers elasticity to different tissues including blood vessels. The formation of elastin fibers is a complex process involving monomer coacervation and subsequent crosslinking. Mutations in exons 1-29 of the gene have been linked to supravalvular aortic stenosis (SVAS) whereas mutations in exons 30-33 are associated with autosomal dominant cutis laxa (ADCL).

Background: Epilepsy is a serious health problem worldwide. Despite the introduction of new antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) almost 30% of these patients have drug-resistant forms of the disease (DRE), with a significant increase in morbi-mortality.

Objective: Our objective was to assess the impact of some genetic factors and its possible association with treatment response and adverse drug reactions (ADRs) to phenytoin in 67 adult Colombian patients with epilepsy.

Uveitis, defined as inflammation of the uveal tract of the eye, is a leading cause of blindness and visual impairment throughout the world. The etiology of uveitis is complex, and autoimmunity plays a major role in its pathogenesis. Intermediate uveitis (IU), a subtype of ocular inflammation, has been associated with systemic autoimmune disorders, specifically with multiple sclerosis (MS).

Purpose: Warfarin is an oral anticoagulant associated with adverse reaction to drugs due to wide inter- and intra-individual dosage variability. Warfarin dosage has been related to non-genetic and genetic factors. and gene polymorphisms affect warfarin metabolism and dosage.

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a common neurobehavioral pathology characterized by distinct degrees of inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity. Although ADHD etiology remains elusive, the ADRA2A candidate gene underlies a particular interest, since it participates in the prefrontal cortex regulation of executive function. Three SNPs located on 5' and 3'UTR regions of the gene have been extensively explored but none of them have been definitely validated as a predisposition or a causative sequence variation.

Xeroderma pigmentosum (XP) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized by extreme sensitivity to actinic pigmentation changes in the skin and increased incidence of skin cancer. In some cases, patients are affected by neurological alterations. XP is caused by mutations in 8 distinct genes (XPA through XPG and XPV).

NDUFV1 mutations have been related to encephalopathic phenotypes due to mitochondrial energy metabolism disturbances. In this study, we report two siblings affected by a diffuse leukodystrophy, who carry the NDUFV1 c.1156C>T (p.

Anomalies in gonadal development in a mouse knockout model of Cited2 have been recently described. In Cited2(-/-) female gonads, an ectopic cell migration was observed and the female program of sex determination was transiently delayed. We hypothesize that, in humans, this temporary inhibition of genes should be sufficient to provoke a developmental impairment of the female gonads, conducive to premature ovarian failure (POF).

Pachydermoperiostosis, or primary hypertrophic osteoarthropathy (PHO), is an inherited multisystem disorder, whose features closely mimic the reactive osteoarthropathy that commonly accompanies neoplastic and inflammatory pathologies. We previously described deficiency of the prostaglandin-degrading enzyme 15-hydroxyprostaglandin dehydrogenase (HPGD) as a cause of this condition, implicating elevated circulating prostaglandin E(2) (PGE(2)) as causative of PHO, and perhaps also as the principal mediator of secondary HO. However, PHO is genetically heterogeneous.

FOXO4 constitutes a coherent candidate gene associated with premature ovarian failure (POF) pathogenesis. This study sequenced the coding and exon-flanking regions of this gene in a panel of 116 POF patients and 143 controls of Tunisian origin. In both groups, the IVS2 + 41T > G sequence variant was identified.

Earlier reports demonstrated a key role of Cdkn1b during mouse ovarian development. In this study, the sequencing analysis of the complete coding region of this gene in a panel of premature ovarian failure patients and control subjects reveals a novel mutation potentially related to the phenotype.

We present population genetic data of 15 STRs (CSF1PO, D3S1358, D5S818, D7S820, D8S1179, D13S317, D16S539, D18S51, D21S11, FGA, PENTA D, PENTA E, TH01, TPOX and VWA) obtained from a sample of 617 unrelated individuals from Colombia. Deviations from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium were assessed and allele frequencies and parameters of forensic interest for each STR were calculated. The combined power of exclusion (PE) and the combined power of discrimination (PD) for the 15 tested STR loci were 0, 99999895 and more than 0, 9999999, respectively.
