Epidemiology of pertussis in Costa Rica and the impact of vaccination: A 58-year experience (1961-2018).

Costa Rica is an upper middle-income country in Central America with a vigorous public health system. We have studied the number of cases, hospitalizations, and deaths due to pertussis from 1961 to 2018, in relation to vaccine coverage. Following the introduction of the fourth and fifth doses of DTP (booster doses) in 1973 there was a marked reduction of reported pertussis.

National vaccine coverage trends and funding in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Background: From 2006 to 2011 nearly 174,000 deaths were prevented in Latin America and the Caribbean through vaccination of children under five, which is widely attributed to the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI). Despite near global adoption of EPI recommendations, vaccination coverage shows substantial variation across world regions. Causes for low immunizations within regions are multifaceted and include vaccination program costs.

Chagas Disease Prevalence in Colombia: A Meta-Analysis and Systematic Review.

Background And Objectives: Chagas disease is a major public health problem in Latin America. A neglected disease of poor and rural Latin American populations, it has now emerged in other regions and urban areas due to international migration. In Colombia, systematic data pertaining to the disease's magnitude in the general population and its distribution within regions are lacking.
