Herein, we explore the combined effect of Shaped-Induced Enhanced Raman Scattering (SIERS) and Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) for detecting thiram molecules. We fabricated V-shaped microchannels on a silicon (100) substrate through a standard lithography and etching process. The analysis of SIERS@SERS was performed for Si-V substrates modified with AuNRs with different thiram concentrations, 10 to 10 mol/L.

Eumelanin, the main quinone-based biomaterial of the melanin family of compounds, is emerging as a model for medical and sustainable electronic interfaces due to its biocompatibility, biodegradability, and transducing abilities. The study utilizes current-voltage measurements and impedance/dielectric spectroscopy under a controlled hydration atmosphere to investigate the charge transport of eumelanin produced from the BSB49 strain. We show no differences in the electrical response in highly hydrated conditions compared to the standard synthetic eumelanin.

Organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) are particularly interesting for flexible and lightweight products, because of their low-temperature solution processability, and the mechanical flexibility of organic materials that endows OFETs the natural compatibility with plastic and biodegradable substrates. Here, an in-depth review of two competing flexible OFET technologies, planar and vertical OFETs (POFETs and VOFETs, respectively) is provided.

One of the main issues of using nanocellulose as a fundamental component for wearable electronics is the influence of environmental conditions on it. The water adsorption promotes the swelling of nanopaper substrates, which directly affects the devices' electrical properties prepared on/with it.

Intermolecular electron-transfer reactions are key processes in physics, chemistry, and biology. The electron-transfer rates depend primarily on the system reorganization energy, that is, the energetic cost to rearrange each reactant and its surrounding environment when a charge is transferred. Despite the evident impact of electron-transfer reactions on charge-carrier hopping, well-controlled electronic transport measurements using monolithically integrated electrochemical devices have not successfully measured the reorganization energies to this date.

The considerable potential of SURMOFs for electronics results from their low cost, high versatility, and good mechanical flexibility. Here, the first observation of room-temperature negative differential resistance (NDR) in SURMOF vertical heterojunctions is reported.

Herein, we report an effect based on the shape-induced enhanced Raman scattering (SIERS) to improve the action of gold nanorods (AuNRs) as a SERS substrate. Scattered electric field simulations reveal that bare V-shaped Si substrates exhibit spatially distributed interference patterns from the incident radiation used in the Raman experiment, resulting in constructive interference for an enhanced Raman signal.

Efforts to fabricate MRs-based hybrid materials may result in suitable operating parameters coupled to high mechanical flexibility and low cost. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) arise as a favorable candidate to cover such demands.

Defects present in rGO implies in disordered systems with numerous localized sites, resulting in a charge transport governed mainly by a 2D variable range hopping (VRH) mechanism. These characteristics are observed even in multilayered rGO since the through-plane conduction is expected to be insubstantial.

In this work, we demonstrate the implementation of surface-modified polypyrrole (PPy) structures, monolithically integrated into a three-dimensional multilayered paper-based microfluidic device, to locally assess humidity changes. The fabrication and integration of the system include the deterministic incorporation of PPy into the paper-based structure by gas-phase polymerization and the modification of the polymer properties to allow local humidity monitoring.

However, graphene zero-bandgap and the production of defect-free pristine graphene in large areas still limit some applications. To circumvent these issues, graphene-derived 2D materials have arisen as attractive candidates for low-dimensional systems, which requires a better comprehension of their properties.

However, the coverage of large areas with pristine graphene is a challenge and graphene derivatives have been alternatively exploited to produce hybrid and composite materials that allow for new developments, considering also the handling of large areas using distinct methodologies. For electronic applications there is significant interest in the investigation of the electrical properties of graphene derivatives and related composites to determine whether the characteristic 2D charge transport of pristine graphene is preserved.
