Scleredema adultorum of Buschke is a rare skin disease characterized by skin thickening and tightening typically at the neck and the upper part of the body. This thickening results from increased mucin deposition in the reticular dermis. Three variants are recognized.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAlthough hypersensitivity pneumonitis is the most common pulmonary complication described during treatment with methotrexate, other complications like lymphoproliferative and infectious disease may be considered in the study of respiratory disease associated to methotrexate. The existence of an increased risk to developing infectious diseases may be similar to that observed during treatment with antagonists of tumor necrosis factor and corticosteroids, where Cytomegalovirus pneumonia is a serious complication; early diagnosis and treatment will prevent a potentially fatal outcome.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFLymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) is a rare disease characterized by abnormal proliferation of immature smooth muscle cells and cystic lung destruction, which determines the prognosis of the disease. The kidney angiomyolipomas are usually very common in this disease and are usually asymptomatic unless complications arise. In the absence of a curative treatment, recent publications show promising results in molecular therapy to prevent functional decline and to control the size of the angiomyolipomas.
