It is known that low level laser therapy is able to improve skin flap viability by increasing angiogenesis. However, the mechanism for new blood vessel formation is not completely understood. Here, we investigated the effects of 660 nm and 780 nm lasers at fluences of 30 and 40 J/cm(2) on three important mediators activated during angiogenesis.

The objective of the present study was to evaluate the outcomes of autogenous bone graft (AB) and bioglass (BG) associated or not with leukocyte-poor platelet-rich plasma (LP-PRP) in the rabbit maxillary sinus (MS) by histomorphometric and radiographic analysis. Twenty rabbits divided into 2 groups (G1, G2) were submitted to sinus lift surgery. In G1, 10 MS were grafted with AB and 10 MS were grafted with BG.

Given the scarcity of studies on the effects of US on healthy tissue, many physical therapy professionals make unfounded decisions regarding its methods and parameters of application.
Objectives: The possible histological and morphometric changes in the healthy tissue of Wistar rats in vivo irradiated with different intensities of US were evaluated.
This study investigated the effects of 670 nm laser, at different fluences, on the viability of skin flap in rats. One hundred male animals were used. The animals were divided into control group; group treated with 3 J/cm(2); group treated with 6 J/cm(2); group treated with 12 J/cm(2) and group treated with 24 J/cm(2).

The mean value for the Schirmer tear test I was 8.9 +/- 1.

The aim of this study was to determine whether silver-stained nucleolar organizer region (AgNOR) and Ki-67 measurements could improve the assessment of growth rates in oral lesions. Eighty-three oral biopsies were studied, 20 of which were classified as fibrous inflammatory hyperplasia (FIH), 40 as leukoplakia (LKP) and 23 as oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC).

To test the hypothesis that anogenital HPV types participate in disruption of the regulation of p16(INK4A) suppressor protein in oral lesions, we analyzed 46 oral biopsy specimens for the presence of HPV 6/11 and 16/18 by in situ hybridization (ISH) and for p16(INK4A) expression by immunohistochemistry (IHC). Eighteen (39%) of the 46 oral lesions were HPV-positive and 28 (61%) were HPV-negative.

Bleeding (B) and non-bleeding (NB) buccal gingival tissues, were measured through manual probing during gingivectomy procedures. The histological evidence of inflammation was used as the gold standard.
