Background: An accurate diagnosis of septic versus reactive or autoimmune arthritis remains clinically challenging. A multi-omics strategy comprising metagenomic and proteomic technologies were undertaken for children diagnosed with presumed septic arthritis to advance clinical diagnoses and care for affected individuals.

Methods: Twelve children with suspected septic arthritis were prospectively enrolled to compare standard of care tests with a rapid multi-omics approach.

Objectives: To understand the early stages if Alport nephropathy, we characterize the structural, functional, and biophysical properties of glomerular capillaries and podocytes in mice, analyze kidney cortex transcriptional profiles at three time points, and investigate the effects of the ER stress mitigation by TUDCA on these parameters. We use human FSGS associated genes to identify molecular pathways rescued by TUDCA.

Findings: We define a disease progression timeline in mice.

Article Synopsis
  • The study looks at different types of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria in kids with a bone infection called acute hematogenous osteomyelitis (AHO) and how they behave differently when growing.
  • Researchers compared how well three different strains of the bacteria grew in the lab, focusing on those from kids who were mildly, moderately, or severely sick.
  • The results showed that the mild strain grew better and faster, while the moderate and severe strains had different abilities that might help them cause more serious infections.

We have developed a novel referencing technique for surface plasmon resonance imaging systems referred to as "spot and hop." The technique enables internal referencing for individual flow cells in a parallel processing microfluidic network. Internal referencing provides the ability to correct for nonspecific binding and instrument drift, significantly improving data quality at each region of interest.
