In this study, we synthesized FeO using the co-precipitation method and then prepared magnetic carrier LDHs@FeO by immobilizing layered double hydroxide on FeO by in situ growth method. Cellulase was immobilized on this magnetic carrier by using glutaraldehyde as a coupling agent, which can be used for degrading Methoxychlor (MXC). The results demonstrated the maximum MXC removal efficiency of 73.

A new series of 5-alkylamido isophthalic acid (ISA) derivatives with varying single and twin alkyl chain lengths were designed and synthesized as potential supramolecular organogelators. 5-alkylamido ISAs with linear or branched alkyl tail-groups of different lengths were effective gelators for low polarity solvents. In particular, among the presented series, a derivative with a branched, 24 carbon atom tail-group behaves as a "supergelator" with up to twenty organic solvents forming gels that are highly stable over time.

Samples belonging to the series Sm(y)(Fe(x)Ni(1−x)₄Sb₁₂ were heated in Ar atmosphere up to 400 °C and cooled down to room temperature several times, with the aim to evaluate the effect of thermal cycles on microhardness. The treatment temperature was chosen in correspondence of the maximum ZT value, in order to simulate the operating conditions of the material in a thermoelectric device. Vickers measurements allowed to detect the effect of both composition and thermal treatments on the microhardness properties of the material.

The objective of this review is to evaluate the factors that determine the development or deterioration of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) after partial nephrectomy (PN). When current literature is reviewed, it is found that factors that influence renal function after partial nephrectomy, are multifactorial. A structural study of the filled skutterudite Smy(FexNi1-x)4Sb12 was performed by means of X-ray powder diffraction and μ-Raman spectroscopy with the aim to unveil the correlations between structural and electronic properties of this material and to favor the improvement of its thermoelectric performance. Samples were prepared by direct reaction of the elements at 1223 K, followed by quenching and subsequent sintering at 873 K; microstructure and composition of the obtained products were determined by SEM-EDS. An experiment with a newly developed high-resolution kaon spectrometer and a scattered electron spectrometer with a novel configuration was performed in Hall C at Jefferson Lab. We have extracted QCD matrix elements from our data on doubly polarized inelastic scattering of electrons on nuclei. We find the higher twist matrix element d˜2, which arises strictly from quark-gluon interactions, to be unambiguously nonzero. The data also reveal an isospin dependence of higher twist effects if we assume that the Burkhardt-Cottingham sum rule is valid.

In a global analysis of the latest parity-violating electron scattering measurements on nuclear targets, we demonstrate a significant improvement in the experimental knowledge of the weak neutral-current lepton-quark interactions at low energy. The precision of this new result, combined with earlier atomic parity-violation measurements, places tight constraints on the size of possible contributions from physics beyond the standard model. Consequently, this result improves the lower-bound on the scale of relevant new physics to approximately 1 TeV.

It has been well established that a rapid decrease in bone mineral density (BMD) occurs in the first 6 to 12 mo after a successful renal transplantation and persists, albeit at a lower rate, for many years. This rapid BMD loss significantly increases the fracture risk of these patients to levels that are even higher than those of patients who have chronic kidney disease stage 5 and are on dialysis. The presence of low BMD in renal transplant patients as a predictor of risk fracture is controversial.
