The most common odontogenic tumor is the solid ameloblastoma. This is concerning due to the progressive bone destruction in its intraosseous variant; this type of pathology often gets a delayed diagnosis due to the asymptomatic characteristic it has. The aim of the article is to propose a conservative treatment for multicystic ameloblastoma, reviewing the latest concepts, controversies, and treatment options described in the literature.

Balo's concentric sclerosis (BCS) is a rare subtype of multiple sclerosis. Advanced MRI metrics, such as magnetization transfer ratio (MTR), fractional anisotropy (FA), mean diffusivity (MD), and the ratio of total N-acetylaspartate concentration/total creatine concentration (tNAA/tCr) using proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (H-MRS), are commonly used in research studies to investigate the effect of a disease modifying therapy (DMT). We report a patient diagnosed with BCS, receiving ocrelizumab, and provide a comparison of the lesion volume, T1-gadolinium lesion volume, MTR, FA, MD, and MRS metrics at baseline, 6- and 12-month follow-up.

The synthesis of dihydroxybenzenes (DHBZ), essential chemical reagents in numerous industrial processes, with a high degree of selectivity and yield from the hydroxylation of phenol is progressively attracting great interest in the catalysis field. Furthermore, the additive manufacturing of catalysts to produce 3D printed monoliths would provide additional benefits to enhance the DHBZ synthesis performance. Herein, 3D cellular Fe/γ-AlO monoliths with a total porosity of 88% and low density (0.

Background: Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has been associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes. Due to the lack of effective treatments for COVID-19, it becomes imperative to assess the geographical differences and trends in the current clinical care and outcomes of COVID-19 in pregnant women.

Methods: A PubMed search was performed to screen articles reporting therapeutics and outcomes of confirmed COVID-19 in pregnant women prior to August 27, 2020.

Background: The objective of this prospective, multidisciplinary and multicenter study was to explore the effect of a cleft lip, associated or not with a cleft palate, on parents, on parent-infant relationship, and on the baby's relational development. It also highlighted how the type of cleft and the timing of the surgery could impact this effect.

Method: 158 infants, with Cleft lip with or without Palate, and their parents participated in this multicenter prospective cohort.

Article Synopsis
  • Duodenal atresia is a rare birth defect found in about 1 in 10,000 infants, often associated with trisomy 21.
  • Two siblings were born with this condition, alongside their father who also had it, suggesting a potential genetic link.
  • Recurrent cases should be evaluated for possible autosomal dominant or recessive inheritance patterns, especially if identified before birth.

Objective: Hypothyroid state and aging are associated with impairment in water reabsorption and changes in aquaporin water channel type 2 (AQP2). Nitric oxide (NO) is involved in AQP2 trafficking to the apical plasma membrane in medullary collecting duct cells. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether aging and hypothyroidism alter renal function, and whether medullary NO and AQP2 are implicated in maintaining water homeostasis.

The objective of this study was to examine the relation between the 5, 10-methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene and behaviors related to attention- deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in individuals with myelomeningocele. The rationale for the study was twofold: folate metabolizing genes, (e.g.

Our previous results have shown that hypovolemic state induced by acute hemorrhage in young anesthetized rats triggers heterogeneous and dynamic nitric oxide synthase (NOS) activation, modulating the cardiovascular response. Involvement of the nitric oxide pathway is both isoform-specific and time-dependent. The aim of the present study was to investigate changes in activity and protein levels of the different NOS forms, changes in the abundance of caveolin-1 during hypovolemic state and caveolin-1/eNOS association using young and middle-aged rats.

This study investigates whether changes in nitric oxide (NO) production participate in the cardiovascular manifestations of hypothyroidism and whether these changes are age-related. Sprague-Dawley rats aged 2 and 18 months old were treated with 0.02% methimazole (wt/vol) during 28 days.

Objective: Public health professionals and clinicians rely on hospital discharge data to explore the epidemiology of preeclampsia. Our objective was to compare the concordance in preeclampsia inpatient mortality between hospital inpatient discharge data and death certificate data in Texas during a 2-year period using the capture-recapture technique.

Methods: The statewide Texas hospital inpatient discharge dataset and a statewide death certificate dataset were searched for fatal episodes of preeclampsia or eclampsia.

Obesity in women of reproductive age is increasing. Gynecologic laparoscopy in the morbidly obese pregnant patient presents challenges, and is not often attempted. Herein is reported a successful case using a modified Foley lap-lift technique, which improved visualization and facilitated mechanical ventilation.

White's classification system (WCS) was created 60 years ago to identify diabetic (DM) pregnancies at increased risk for perinatal morbidity and mortality. Our objective was to assess the association between WCS and adverse pregnancy outcome (APO) in contemporary DM pregnancies. We studied diabetic women with singleton pregnancies who delivered at >20 weeks at a single institution over a 1-year period (2007 to 2008).

Objective: We tested putative functional single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in genes that regulate the folate/homocysteine metabolism pathway for their contribution to spina bifida (SB) susceptibility.

Study Design: The study consisted of 610 unrelated simplex SB patient families. Genotypes of 46 SNPs located in the coding sequence or promoter region of 11 genes were investigated.

The purpose of this study was to describe how obstetricians in the community define a short cervix prior to cerclage placement. A secondary analysis of cerclages placed for the diagnosis of short cervix, defined by either digital or ultrasound examination, were identified from a cohort of 1076 cerclages placed at a community hospital from January 1, 2000, through December 31, 2004. Two hundred twenty-six cerclages were placed for the diagnosis of short cervix.

Objective: To evaluate whether treatment provided for ectopic pregnancies was different for patients with identified barriers to health care, including ethnicity, lack of insurance, distance from the treating facility that provides services and undocumented residency, at an institution that utilizes a protocol-based algorithm for treatment of ectopic pregnancies.

Study Design: Charts of 401 patients who were diagnosed with ectopic pregnancy from January 1, 1993, through December 31, 1998, were reviewed to compare the use of medical treatment using methotrexate versus surgical treatment. Data were analyzed with respect to patient ethnicity, socioeconomic status (including insurance status and possession of a social security card [a proxy for legal residency status]), residence inside or outside the county of the treating facility, patient presentation and treatment outcomes.
