NURSING EMERGING. ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice, (2015) 3rd Edition.

AHNA Past-President Carla Mariano recently had the privilege of serving on the American Nurses Association's (ANA) Nursing Scope and Standards Revision Workgroup. Representing the specialty practice of holistic nursing, Carla's presence within this workgroup contributed greatly to the inclusion of holistic principles and values throughout the new 2015 Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice, 3rd edition, the foundational document that informs and guides professional nursing practice within the United States. This is a significant step forward for holistic nursing and an indicator of our growing influence as specialty practice.

A legacy building model for holistic nursing.

This pilot project was an effort to record the historical roots, development, and legacy of holistic nursing through the visionary spirit of four older American Holistic Nurses Association (AHNA) members. The aim was twofold: (a) to capture the holistic nursing career experiences of elder AHNA members and (b) to begin to create a Legacy Building Model for Holistic Nursing. The narratives will help initiate an ongoing, systematic method for the collection of historical data and serve as a perpetual archive of knowledge and inspiration for present and future holistic nurses.

Creation of an American Holistic Nurses Association research consultation program.

A goal of the American Holistic Nurses Association (AHNA) Research Committee is to prepare holistic nurses to conduct holistic nursing research. This article describes the creation of a Research Consultation Program and how the knowledge gained from the program will contribute to the development of a formal research mentor program.

Holistic nursing as a specialty: holistic nursing - scope and standards of practice.

This article describes the Holistic Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice. It defines holistic nursing, its five core values, and its practice standards. These include holistic philosophy, theory, and ethics; holistic caring process; holistic communication, therapeutic environment, and cultural diversity; holistic education and research; and holistic nurse self-care.

Crisis theory and intervention: a critical component of nursing education.

Nurses deal daily with clients and families whose lives are in crisis, yet many feel educationally and professionally unprepared to intervene effectively in crisis situations. The author describes a course in Crisis Theory and Intervention offered to master's level nursing students. The importance of knowledge and skill in this area for practicing nurses and the need for incorporation of this content in nursing educational programs are discussed.
