Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare marginal bone loss and success rates 1 year after implants had been placed in maxillary molar sites, either immediately postextraction or after the extraction sites had healed (delayed).

Materials And Methods: A retrospective case study was made of subjects treated with immediate or delayed dental implants in the maxillary molar region between January 2006 and December 2008. A protocol was prepared in which patient age, sex, implant length and diameter, type of prosthesis, buccal plate width, and use of bone grafting were recorded.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to compare the success rates of dental implants placed immediately after tooth extraction versus those placed in healed sites in patients who had all their teeth removed for rehabilitation with implant-supported prostheses.
  • - Conducted on 38 patients from 2004 to 2008, the results showed that out of 292 implants, only 8 failed, leading to an overall success rate of 96.9%, with slightly higher success for immediate implants at 97.7%.
  • - The findings suggest that placing implants immediately after extraction can lead to effective bone healing and osseointegration, potentially being as successful or even better than waiting for the sites to heal first.
