Objective: The European Society for Vascular Surgery (ESVS) has developed clinical practice guidelines for the care of patients with vascular trauma with the aim of assisting physicians in selecting the optimal management strategy.
Methods: The guidelines are based on scientific evidence completed with expert opinion. By summarising and evaluating the best available evidence, recommendations for the evaluation and treatment of patients have been formulated.
Objective: This retrospective, multicentre, observational study analysed patients who underwent endovascular repair for blunt traumatic aortic injury (BTAI) at four tertiary trauma referral centres over twenty years. It aimed to determine early and long term survival, to analyse aortic and device related complications, and to assess the re-intervention rate after endovascular repair for BTAI.
Methods: All patients treated from 1 January 2001 to 31 October 2021 were identified using local hospital registries and two national registries: the Swedish vascular registry (Swedvasc) and Swedish trauma registry (SweTrau).
Background: Despite medical interventions, COVID-19 continues to persist at pandemic proportions. A hypercoagulation state was rapidly observed in the severely ill, and the incidence of thromboembolic events remains elevated. Interleukin inhibitors have demonstrated positive effects on the hyperactivation of the immune system in COVID-19, with the interleukin-6 inhibitor tocilizumab showing promising results in reducing mortality.

Purpose: Sweden has an established trauma system involving national trauma criteria and the Swedish trauma registry (SweTrau), since over a decade. Meanwhile, the injury panorama has evolved, with an increase in gang-related violence in the Swedish community. In this study, we aimed to investigate long-term trends in mortality, management and trauma type in two major Swedish trauma centers over a nine-year period.

In this pilot study, our main aim was to investigate if 21% oxygen compared to ≥50% reduces the risk of postoperative complications and myocardial injury.

In this retrospective study, outcomes for surgical thrombectomy and thrombolysis after access thrombosis in patients with arteriovenous fistulas or prosthetic grafts (arteriovenous grafts) were analysed.
Methods:: All patients with a primary episode of dialysis access thrombosis between 2005 and 2013 were included which yielded 131 patients with 149 episodes of access thrombosis (108 arteriovenous grafts; 41 arteriovenous fistulas).
Purpose: To describe a heretofore unreported complication involving the Zenith Low Profile (LP) stent-graft.
Case Report: Two men, aged 75 and 67 years, respectively, underwent abdominal aortic aneurysm repair with a Zenith LP device. At 4 and 3 years, respectively, computed tomography angiography revealed separation of the proximal fixation stent from the stent-graft.
Introduction: Ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm (rAAA) is associated with coagulopathy and intraabdominal hemorrhage. Fibrinogen acts as a key coagulation factor and has previously been suggested as a biomarker for increased perioperative bleeding in other surgical areas. The aim of the present study was to investigate fibrinogen and standard laboratory parameters and their association to preoperative hemodynamic status, intraoperative bleeding (IOB), and outcome in treatment of rAAA.

Unfavorable morphologic features for EVAR in women with AAA may explain this disproportion. The objective of this study was to identify morphologic features in AAA patients undergoing elective repair with special emphasis on gender differences.

It remains to be investigated which AAA patients have a higher risk of also developing TAAs. The aim of this study was to identify possible differences in the risk factor profile in AAA patients with or without a TAA.

Objective: To analyze the contribution of genetic and environmental factors to the development of peripheral arterial disease (PAD) in a large population-based sample of twins.
Methods And Results: The understanding of genetics in PAD is still limited. From the Swedish Twin Registry and the national patient discharge registry, 1464 twins with PAD were identified, including 33 monozygotic (MZ) and 42 dizygotic (DZ) concordant pairs and 298 MZ and 1008 DZ discordant pairs.
Background: The contribution of hereditary and environmental factors to the development of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) is still partly unknown. The aim of this study was to analyze the role of these factors in a large population-based sample of twins.
Methods: The Swedish Twin Registry, containing data on twins born in the country since 1886, was cross-linked with the Inpatient Registry, providing national coverage of discharge diagnoses coded according to the International Classification of Diseases (ICD).
Background: The management of infrarenal aortic aneurysms in high-risk patients remains a challenge. Endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) is associated with superior short-term mortality rates but unclear long-term results and has not been shown to improve survival in patients unfit for open repair (OR). The aim of this population-based study was to evaluate the outcome after elective EVAR compared with OR in a high-risk patient cohort.

In this study, maximum percent diameter carotid bulb ICA stenosis (European Carotid Surgery Trial [ECST] method) was objectively measured using high resolution B-mode DUS validated with computed tomography angiography (CTA) and used to determine optimum velocity thresholds for > or =50% and > or =80% bulb internal carotid artery stenosis (ICA).
Methods: B-mode DUS and CTA images of 74 bulb ICA stenoses were compared to validate accuracy of the DUS measurements.

Migration is a rare but known complication of inferior vena cava filter placement. We herein describe a case of a prophylactic retrievable vena cava filter migrating to the right ventricle in a bariatric patient.
