The One Health concept focuses on the interconnections between human health, animal health, and the environment, stressing the need for interdisciplinary collaborations to address complex issues such as the health challenges posed by climate change and global pandemics. One Health is a central part of the curriculum of veterinary schools, however, it is rarely incorporated into medical school education. Nationally, there are limited examples of formal One Health education and training for medical students.

Objective: Identify and analyze incidents of substandard, falsified, unregistered, and stolen medical products at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Methods: Detailed search of the websites of regulatory authorities in the Americas. Identification of incidents of substandard, falsified, unregistered, and stolen medicines and medical devices (including in vitro diagnostics).
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common cardiac arrhythmia encountered in the emergency department (ED) and when patients present in acute AF with rapid ventricular rate (RVR), it can result in significant morbidity and mortality. Primary treatment modalities are aimed at rate control with the two most common agents being intravenous metoprolol and diltiazem. Some evidence suggests that diltiazem may be more effective at controlling rate in these patients; however, the dosing strategies, pharmacologic differences, and study designs may play a role in the observation of these differences.

Microalgae-based biofuel is considered as one of the most promising sources of alternative energy because it is sustainable and does not pose threats to the environment and food security. However, attempts in improving microalgal strains to attain the ideal characteristics for biofuel application are yet to unravel. In this study, random UV-C mutagenesis was employed to generate starch-deficient mutants of indigenous to enhance its productivity.

This study presents a novel, high-performance condition-monitoring method based on a four-stage incremental learning approach. First, non-stationary operation is characterised using normalised time-frequency maps.

Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study of consecutive patients admitted for inpatient video-EEG monitoring at The Royal Melbourne Hospital, Australia, between December 1, 2011, and July 31, 2017. Participants underwent routine clinical investigations during their monitoring period including polysomnography, neurocognitive testing, and screening instruments of daytime somnolence, sleep quality, and quality of life.
Consequent to the growing demand for alternative sources of energy, the seeds from Jatropha curcas remain to be the favorite for biodiesel production. However, a significant volume of the residual organic mass (seed cake) is produced during the extraction process, which raises concerns on safe waste disposal. In the present study, we assessed the toxicity of J.

Previous research has shown that convulsive psychogenic nonepileptic seizures (PNES) demonstrate a characteristic pattern of rhythmic movement artifact on the EEG. Herein we sought to examine the potential for time-frequency mapping of data from a movement-recording device (accelerometer) worn on the wrist as a diagnostic tool to differentiate between convulsive epileptic seizures and PNES.

Combining video-EEG monitoring with polysomnography (VPSG) provides the opportunity to diagnose clinically significant OSA as well as relate the occurrence of seizures and the epilepsy diagnosis to the presence and severity of sleep-disordered breathing. We have established routine VPSG in our inpatient video-EEG monitoring unit and present our findings in 87 patients.

The aims of the study were (1) to investigate whether the presence and nature of oral lacerations or incontinence during convulsive seizures of patients with epilepsy differed from those with PNES, and (2) whether the side of the oral laceration has any correlation with the epilepsy syndrome or lateralization.
Methods: Eighty-four consecutive patients who experienced at least one convulsive event during video-EEG monitoring (VEM) were questioned and examined for oral lacerations and incontinence.
Background: Energy conservation and calcium homeostasis contribute to myocardial protection provided by hyperkalemic cardioplegia during ischemia. Complimenting these established mechanisms of protection, previous work suggested that activation of cytoprotective signaling pathways also contributes to reduced injury with cardioplegia. We proposed that cardioplegia would recruit cytoprotective pathways and investigated the transcriptional response of the heart after cardioplegia-protected ischemia compared with that after ischemia alone.

This study was designed to examine the added benefit of two adjunctive interventions, individual cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and fluoxetine, offered in the context of group behavioral weight control treatment.
Research Methods And Procedures: One hundred sixteen overweight/obese women and men with binge eating disorder were all assigned to receive a 16-session group behavioral weight control treatment over 20 weeks.
Background: Droperidol has recently been associated with cardiac arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death. Changes in action potential duration seem to be the cause of the arrhythmic behavior, which can lead to alterations in intracellular free Ca concentration ([Ca]i). Because [Ca]i and myofilament Ca sensitivity are key regulators of myocardial contractility, the authors' objective was to identify whether droperidol alters [Ca]i or myofilament Ca sensitivity in rat ventricular myocytes and to identify the cellular mechanisms responsible for these effects.

Recent research strongly supports targeting at-risk prediabetes clients through therapeutic lifestyle change. Many behavior change techniques and strategies are known to be successful, yet are seldom implemented in today's health care arena.

Differentiation of "convulsive" PNES from convulsive seizures can be difficult. The EEG often displays rhythmic movement artifact that may resemble seizure activity and confound the interpretation.

Background: Aortic cannulation for cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) is linked to cerebral microemboli emanating from the ascending aorta. Aortic calcification or disease requiring replacement precludes aortic cannulation. Clinical experience with axillary artery cannulation led to the hypothesis that axillary cannulation may be cerebroprotective.

We proposed that activation of PKC and TK contribute to the myocardial protection of St. Thomas' No.

We hypothesized that aortomyoplasty could improve cardiac function in a chronic ischemic heart failure model, similar to the improvement seen with the intra-aortic balloon pump.
Methods: Six dogs (25-30 kg) successfully underwent aortomyoplasty followed by serial coronary microembolization.
Objective: This open clinical trial examined the efficacy of treating obese patients with binge eating disorder (BED) with phentermine and fluoxetine in the setting of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT).
Method: Sixteen obese women received individual CBT along with phentermine/fluoxetine. Treatment goals included elimination of binge eating, weight loss, and reduced psychological distress.

By and large the tricyclic antidepressants are safe drugs. The adverse events associated with them often have more to do with the individual patient and any preexisting medical conditions or co-administered medications than with the particular tricyclic drug used. Only rarely will it prove unwise to treat major affective disorders with a tricyclic.
