Background And Aims: Internet gaming disorder (IGD) is a highly engrossing activity with the individual spending up to 10 h per day gaming, this causes issues in accomplishing their tasks and personal goals. Also, to generate in them increased anxiety, impulsivity and lack of social skills, this impacts the good personal development and individual's quality of life. Therefore, it is vital to better understand, in terms of treatment, which factors are associated with therapeutic outcomes (largely to achieve control over the use of video games and the lack of relapses) following a standardized Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) protocol.

Menetrier's disease represents a low prevalence clinical entity, characterized by complexity in its diagnosis, particularly due to the need to exclude its potential association with gastric cancer. In this context, we present the clinical case of a 54-year-old male with nonspecific gastrointestinal symptoms and hypoalbuminemia. During the upper endoscopy procedure, a noticeable thickening of gastric folds was observed, associated with multiple polypoid lesions in the stomach, predominantly in the fundus and body.

Background: Urinary tract infections (UTI) are among the most common cause to prescribe antibiotics in primary care. Diagnosis is based on the presence of clinical symptoms in combination with the results of laboratory tests. Antibiotic therapy is the primary approach to the treatment of UTIs; however, some studies indicate that therapeutics in UTIs may be suboptimal, potentially leading to therapeutic failure and increased bacterial resistance.

Despite increased attention on intimate partner violence (IPV) among Latinx women in the United States, measurement often overlooks economic abuse, reproductive coercion, institution-related threats, and technology-facilitated abuse. Using a broad range of measures, this paper examines prevalence and correlations between different types of IPV among a sample of 38 Latinx women enrolled into a pilot study. Results indicate consistently high prevalence of IPV types and significant correlations between several types of abuse (including sexual abuse, technology-facilitated abuse, and institution-related threats).

Purpose: This study examines the relationship between social support and victimization of Latino youth over time, utilizing the stress prevention and support deterioration models.

Methods: To address the research questions we utilized data from Waves 1 and 2 (n = 574) of the Dating Violence among Latino Adolescents (DAVILA) study, a national bilingual phone survey of self-identified Latino youth and their caregiver. Cross-lagged panel modeling was used to assess the fit of the two theoretical models to observed patterns of covariance among the victimization and social support variables specified.

Eligibility for asylum for survivors of intimate partner violence (IPV) has recently been contested. We summarize social science evidence to show how such survivors generally meet asylum criteria. Studies consistently show a relationship between patriarchal factors and IPV, thereby establishing a key asylum criterion that women are being persecuted because of their status as women.

Stigma plays a critical role in the decision-making process of intimate partner violence (IPV) survivors, particularly whether they disclose, initiate, and continue with care for the consequences of the violence. As such, this study developed and validated a scale to assess the manifestation of IPV stigma on survivors' attitudes toward accessing services, using a racially and ethnically diverse sample of women ( = 409). An exploratory factor analysis was conducted using a calibration subset ( = 206) to identify the factor structure of the newly developed scale.

Although research on sexual violence experiences of minoritized college students has increased in recent years, little is known about the experiences of Latinx students. Even less knowledge is available on whether such violence and disclosure experiences vary by gender identity. The present study addressed this gap by exploring the rates of sexual violence and disclosure patterns after experiences of sexual violence among Latinx college students.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has established a target to eliminate mother-to-child-transmission (EMTCT) of hepatitis B virus (HBV), defined as a prevalence of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) of ≤0.1% among children, by 2030. Using nationally representative serosurveys to verify achievement of this target requires large sample sizes and significant resources.

Article Synopsis
  • Research shows that sexual minority men (SMM), particularly Latino men, face higher rates of intimate partner violence (IPV) compared to heterosexual men, but there has been a lack of focus on Latino SMM in IPV studies.
  • A nationwide study found that 72% of Latino SMM experienced IPV, with significant reports of emotional, physical, and controlling behaviors.
  • The study highlights that psychosocial factors like depression and anxiety, along with Latino-specific factors such as being U.S.-born and facing race-based discrimination, significantly increase the risk of IPV victimization among Latino SMM.

Ethnic-racial background may influence college students' psychological sense of community (PSOC). Thus, it is critical to examine whether this construct is conceptualized similarly between non-Hispanic, Black and Hispanic students. This study tested the measurement invariance of the Brief Sense of Community Scale (BSCS) across the two groups.

The investigation of erythropoietin (EPO) has expanded to include potential nonhematopoietic roles in neural and retinal diseases, including diabetic retinopathy. However, it remains unclear how EPO functions to support the neural retina. Transgenic mice with hypoactive EPO receptor (EPOR) signaling (hWtEPOR) were compared with littermate control mice (WT) to test the role of EPOR signaling under normal conditions and after vascular injury and regrowth into the retina.

The hepatitis C virus (HCV) epidemic was forecasted through 2030 for 17 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East, and interventions for achieving the Global Health Sector Strategy on viral hepatitis targets-"WHO Targets" (65% reduction in HCV-related deaths, 90% reduction in new infections and 90% of infections diagnosed by 2030) were considered. Scaling up treatment and diagnosis rates over time would be required to achieve these targets in all but one country, even with the introduction of high SVR therapies. The scenarios developed to achieve the WHO Targets in all countries studied assumed the implementation of national policies to prevent new infections and to diagnose current infections through screening.
